Aftermarket electric gauges question

I know this issue is beaten to death but I'm trying to be absolutely sure. I do not wish to retain my stock water temp or oil pressure gauges, so this makes it easier.

I know that the oil sensor by the starter is useless because it usually becomes unplugged and has no changes in engine performance. Lucky me the TBI is a relatively simple and easy EFI setup however that one wire sending unit looks like it is for a gauge and the one on top of the block next to the dizzy is 2 wire which I've been told is a fail safe switch for the fuel pump to turn on.

So if it is a switch can't I just complete the circuit by wiring the connectors together so the fuel pump will turn on?

but I wont be using the oil cooler set up, so it looks like that where the oil pressure gauge sender should hook up to has a plug in it or it is that hole above it and to the right...

am I mistaken?
 
Probably 95% of sbc's use the oil pressure port by the distributor.
 
I'd hesitate on removing the oil pressure switch from the circuit. Not looking at the wiring diagram, but I believe if you complete that circuit, the pump would always run, so you can't do that, you'd have to remove it.

But again, as simple as it is, it makes sense to leave it in case the fuel pump relay dies. No reason to carry a spare for that reason. It also "indicates" a failed pump relay, because with a bad relay but operating pressure switch, cranking will take longer before the engine starts.

Personal preference, do what you think suits you of course.

BTW, if running an electrical gauge that uses the same specs as the GM gauges, the later trucks used a 3 wire oil pressure sensor/switch that combined the gauge sender and the oil pressure switch, which simplifies things a bit.
