I picked up a complete Chevy air cleaner from the bone yard, the deep style type-havent seen too many around. I plan to use it in my snorkel build. Now besides the air filter inside, it also has this other type filter siting inside the main one...seems almost like its attached to the bottom housing....WHAT IS IT? I'd like to rip it out so my carb gets more air.

Thanx for the info!

its a charcoal filter, for smog stuff, and yes its epoxy'ed to the housing. just break it off, you dont need it.

Cool , its gone! My snorkel took about 2 hrs and $40........looks pretty good!, I think....:)

The factory lit. refers to it as a flame arrestor. If you solve for flooding when climbing hills, then you probably don't need the flame arrestor.:D

Solve for flooding??
If I've reverse engineered correctly, GM put the tall air filters on trucks #1 theres room for it #2 trucks typically see more dirt (roads).
Well gee wizz Mortimer, trucks run up and down hills and the Q-Jet spills gas out of the bowl vent; lets put a flame arrester in the air cleaner.
How about a taller vent tube.:doah:
Solve for flooding.:D
