Anyone remember that episode where they used some polish to clean up some old MT valve covers and I believe an intake. I know it was a while back since Stacy was still the host. I remember it being a messy job, but the outcome was impressive as far as getting aluminum to shine. Anyone remember that product or can suggest another for polishing up non clearcoated aluminum rims?

I use mag wheel polish. I sand it to a 400 grit finish then polish it with mag wheel polish. I did this blower motor as i made all the pulleys and this was a raw casted blower. If you notice the first web on the blower has a mirror finish as the others are kinda dull. The first web has the mag wheel polish rubbed in it.
Also all the v-belt and the uppe blower pulley was hand made and polished the same way.

Excuse the tensioner pulley I'm still making that.

Also this is off my old car. But i made all the linkage including the bell crank from scratch. i used the same concept.

Thanks. Any particular brand? I was trying to sell some hurricane wheels that I have been sitting on for a couple years with no luck since I thought I had decided on going 3/4 ton axles. It was more of a want upgrade since I had the stuff on hand than a real need for what I use the Blazer for. But now, the more I look at them, I'm kind of wanting to keep them for it and leave the 1/2 ton axles under it. I mainly just want the edges of the fins and the outer ring polished. The rest can stay rough. If they turn out like your blower, I'd be very happy with using them!

the stuff im using currently is made by eagle 1. Be sure to rub it until it turns into a really nasty black goo. Then rub it out with a perfectly clean rag.

remember if the finish you start with isnt scratch free and at least a 400 grit. the polish wont work.

all you'll end up doing is amplifying the scratches and coarse finish.

Excuse the tensioner pulley I'm still making that.

what's wrong with the one on there right now? :haha:

i got some metal polish from autozone a few years ago that works well on my wheels. i don't have it with me at the moment, but it's light blue, if that helps. it leaves a light silicone protective film which i like.

Don't know if they still make it or not. I used Flitz to polish the alternator on my Z-28 and also the stainless steel on my Colt King Cobra Then when I had my Harley I did the forks and used a buffing wheel.

It kicked butt and shined like chrome! :D

Yep, Zoops or Flitz for the finish. 400 grit, maybe some 800 as well? Look at metal polishing grits & wheels.

You can spend some $$$ and have the grits do the work and end up with plenty left over:rolleyes: or you can get a coarse and a fine grit, a tube of paste and run out of elbow grease:haha:

I finally fixed that pulley. :haha:

ya 800 grit is even better.....the smoother you polish the better it will come out.
