Ok I just picked up a 2/1 250w Sony amp. I planned on getting a 10in sub to run off of it. I wired up my system in my camaro with a sub and amp but this time around my head unit doesnt have the auxilary outputs to goto the amp.

How the hell am I suppose to hook the thing up without them?

I have a sony cdx-gt110 headunit. It has nothing but the basic harness.

I mean I only have 2 speakers in the truck. Am I going to have to splice the rear channels into the amp and then filter the highs off the sub using the amps adjustments? I guess I wont have any nice subwoofer level control like my camaro...

You answered your own question. You could install an electronic active crossover, they usually have high inputs which can be played with more than the amps adjustments, they make a huge difference in sound quality too.

I'm not sure if the amp I have no has it but my amp that I had in my camaro had that built in. It would let you filter out so the speaker would only get highs or lows.

Get a new radio. Even the cheapy 60.00 Duals have RCA jacks. The high to low level inverters will work, bu I have to think that your radio is old and so basic that even a cheap new one is better.

A good high to low converter is going to be almost as much as a good deck.

I refuse to run subs w/o sub preouts....but even a deck with 2-3pairs of preouts is only like $130-$140 online from sony. Practially that cheap at walmart.

If you can get a good deck for $6 let me know where :p:

That being said, using a deck with pre-outs is the more preferred method of connecting an amplifier to your system. I have a line converter in my car running a PPI PC2600 to (2)JL Audio 12's and it sounds fine. My car has a factory Ford/JBL system that already had an external amplifier/eq so installing an aftermarket deck would mean I would need to add another amp, replace my speakers and rewire the entire car or just add a $20 line converter.

Yeah I basically just wired it up like that except I just spliced the RCA wires to the speaker wires. Same deal... I just gotta get my sub tomorrow.
