uhhh...great way to not get pulled over is to make it legal...or atleast close to legal :p:

same reason why I am running 7" lift in front and 10" in rear... and 40" hawgs.. CUS THAT IS ALL NJ allows now.... Im legal and go through checkpoints and all.... :cool1:

Those will MAKE them pull you over!!

A box of donuts??--that will make the cops MORE likely to pull you over!...might as well flip them the bird as you go by,thats like ASKING to get pulled over!...might help reduce the chances of them actually writing you up though..(I can hear it now--here officer, have a donut!--gee,thanks!--WHAT!!NO COFFEE???...thats it outa the truck, feet back and spread em! :haha: :rotfl: ) -- to all the police officers who might be reading this--just kidding !! :ignore:

I think the best way not to get pulled over is to stay home!--but seriously,if you have a lifted truck you KNOW is illegal, and you have a local cop that tends to be hard on motor vehicle laws, its best not to go where he's known to bust others!--I had a 72 Chevelle station wagon on a 4x4 suburban frame,it attracted a lot of attention, but only got pulled over once at a "sobriety checkpoint" roadblock, after they determined it was registered and insured,I was free to go,although one of the cops said to "take that thing home and park it!"--I did for about a week!--I never had any further trouble, but then,I didn't go around burning the tires,or do donuts in macdonalds parking lots either!.. that cop did see me driving it a few weeks later--he just scowled at me and looked disgusted...

One sure fire way to get pulled over in my area is to drive by in a lifted truck, with loud exhaust, covered with 6 inches of mud from grille to tailgate, with only the windsheild wipers path visible !!(dont ask how I know this! )---when a few friends got stopped for "restricted visibility",the cops were actually much more interested in WHERE they got it so muddy, and how much beer was at the keg party--and how many they drank before they got stopped!..most of the time,if your truck looks decent, isn't excessivly loud, and does not look like its a death trap, they hardly pay any attention--there is too much traffic and other crimes for them to be bothered...thankgod!

What is the law on insurance now in alabama? Thought at one time it was just if you finance company made you get it if you owed something on the vehicle. If it was yours did not need any but someone could sue the hell out of you if hit someone?

Around here cops don't bother trucks unless looks unsafe, a trouble maker owns it or acting stupid. Have no idea on the laws but just drive normal. Truck nuts is just a sign saying give me the tickets.

Move to Alabama. :D

60" to the headlights, windshield, tag, insurance, wear your seatbelt - Have a nice day! :cool1:

This is why my truck still has Alabama tags on it. Too bad I live on a Military Base in NC. Have to follow NC state laws as well as the base's regulations, which are stricter than the state's. 29 more days of driving it and in the back yard she goes.

Good question, it all depends. Im sure most of you have seen my blazer, its pretty big, and I dont get hassled with it. I dont have mud flaps, my tires stick out, I have clear lenses, all my windows are tinted, I have a tinted license plate cover, its loud, frames waay to high, and im sure theres more. A few years ago I got a warning for no mud flaps. In jan or 05 I got pulled over for having a cover on my license plate. The cop was cool, his biggest thing was the license plate cover. He told me he liked my blazer, asked about it and told me I had a lot of work into it and did a good job. He also told me I needed mud flaps, fender flares, technically my exhaust was too high, but he really didnt care, and just told me to fix the license plate cover. I have been doing 70+ on the freeway and the cops fly right by me, like im not even there.

Now my buddy has a 98 gmc with a solid axle, its a tad smaller then my blazer. He doesnt drive like a maniac, heck he never gets on it. Hes gotten pulled over for tinted windows, twice, mud flaps who knows how many times and the frame too high (nowhere near as high as mine). More and more of the big trucks in town are running around with flaps because there all getting pulled over. So why not me? Maybe because the cops like the older trucks? Who knows, but I dont have a problem with it. :D

You have to have the minimum liability insurance. I was sitting at a red light in my toyota pickup and a guy in a 02 honda civic rammed me going about 30 mph. The idiot was bent over trying to pick up his cell phone and looked up at the last minute before hitting me. I only had a bent rear bumper and his front end was totalled. The guy told the cop he had insurance. He lied. Now when it comes the time for me to sign the papers releasing him of correcting what was damaged, screw him. He is gonna lose his license until he pays for my $100 deductible.

Mass Laws

Now according to Mass laws you can take center of tires front to back times center of tire side to side divided by 2200 (with out wheel spacers) in our terms 3.86" with an inch variance. plus you can add that same amount to tire sizes. So with that said 4" of suspension lift and 35" tires. are legal. anything over that and well blue lights usually. By the way where about in western mass are you.

build it solid and make every thing work properly. As long as it's close to regs and you don't drive like a maniac You should be ok. If you do get pulled over don't be a dick to the cop if you do you know hell remember you every time he sees you. :D
I got pulled over when i first got my truck on the road and the only thing he said was it looked unstable  He walked around it 5 times and spent bout 1/2 looking at it and he said it looked unstable  sure buddie.
I politly told him I'd get him this one because I did just get it on the road and it is a good idea to get someone else to look it over for safty but if it passes then i'd apreciate it if you leave me alone. and some other things bla bla bla and so far so good.

I almost forgot about that. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yah i've driven my truck every day for almost 6 1/2 years. Started out at 4" lift and 33's now it's around 8" lift and 35's/ 38's.
In 6 years i've only been pulled over maybe 6 times. and gotten 2 tickets. Speeding 5 years ago, and no left turn between 3:30-6:30 2 or 3 years ago.. :surepal:
Lately, I've been pulled over 3 times by the same cop, all within 2 blocks of my house. "mudflaps", "damn, i heard your truck from a mile away." and "didn't i already give you a ticket for no front licence plate?" just a warning and friendly conversation each time.
I put my front licence plate back on a week later just so i can wave and point next time i see him.

When i get pulled over i'll put both hands on the top of the steering wheel and greet them with a "hey hows it going today officer?" i'll be as polite as possible, and try to BS a little asking them what they drive when they're off duty.. etc.. 'oh yah i've been building this blazer and going offroad as my hobby for 5 years, i bought this as my first truck when i turned 16.'
"yep they just don't make trucks like this anymore." -SJPD officer :rotfl:
I think the biggest thing is driving normal, not speeding or doing anything stupid. i save that for offroad where you can let loose without getting a ticket. And when you do get pulled over, if you're cool to them they usually make up their mind in the first minute whether or not you're getting a ticket.

I'm in the Springfield area of Mass. How about you?

I knew about the wbxtrack/2200 formula for a while and came out with 4" and 35's. I was within that formula with my last ride but I traded it away for this rig in stock form and a set of 1 ton axles. I decided to build as big as I could figuring I'd be moving to CT. The move didn't happen and now I want to go wheeling. I think I'll be painting my K5 black again instead of the khaki/tiger stripes it is now and drive nicely. I'm just glad my exhaust is quiet, my lights, horn and e-brake all work.

yea the mass laws suck

im in an area where there are a lot of big trucks and the club im in does all charity work and stuff so we are tight with the police, hell the police even are on our side and helped legalize the local wheeling spot!

my truck had 4 inches and 38.5's on it and i only got pulled over 3 times in a year, 1 was for no front bumper and no front plate(i had them in the bed cuz they fell off the night before) i got away with a warning cuz the officer sed i kept my mouth shut and was polite. 2nd time was because the little punk in a ricer thought he was all bad ass so i stomped on it and i got pulled over for loud exhaust (tail pipes fell of that night), and the last one was for no plate lights and no inspection sticker ( i was a day late getting a sticker after i registerd it, and a fuse blew so i didnt have plate/brake lights)

just drive normal and just drive to and from the trails, and if you do get pulled over just tell them that its an offroad only vehicle and your going to or from the trail.

oh and local cops like it when you help pull cars out of the snow in the winter :D
