Snapped the spring ate bolt, anybody on here swapped a u bolt? I'll probably be doing this in future

Nice, but I don't think it's rusted in there. It's bent in it. When my suspension droops the front axle will move forward 3-4 inches and when it stuff it moves back 3-4 inches. So when it's flexed out the front axle is twisting in ubolts 6-8"s. And it bent the bolt. Before the bolt broke I tried an electric Craftsman impact, pneumatic imapct and finally a 2.5foot cheater bar on a 1/2" breaker bar and that is what broke the bolt, and it's a grade 8 bolt too....FML...

I think it would come right out with 1/4” hole drilled through the middle of it. Then eazy-out.
Have you tried a stud like ord sells?

I haven't, this is first time I ever broke one. Usually u bolt just stretches. And this time I was tightening u bolt every chance I got and noticed the bolt was bent when I got home.

That might be an option too, I just got a feeling that one isn't coming out easy.

I believe that it was bent, but I don’t think it’ll be bent down inside the housing. You said you were cranking on it, I wonder if it’s bottomed out. That will make it tougher to get out for sure.

And since no one has said it yet....
Four Link it!

I was using the cheater bar to try and loosen it. And it broke trying to remove the bolt. My 400ftlb impact wouldn't even spin it out. And I was putting some weight into the cheater bar to try and break it lose. And that's when the bolt broke. I just had that bolt out a few months ago replacing the center pin on leaf springs. It bent from the axle twisting in the u bolts.

You can see here that the bolt fractured a while ago. Then broke rest of way whdn I tried to remove it

I'm really thinking about linking it lol, ya winch line is pretty bound up, and went to send line out but instead it sucked it in and pinched my thumb in hook. Another thing that needs to be fixed, along with bad battery and flat tire lol.

Damnit. That’s definitely stuck. Still, you’d be surprised how much tension is released when you drill out the center of it. After you drill it, give er some heat and then fill it with penetrating oil. If it doesn’t budge with an eazy out at that point, weld a 3/8” bolt in it.

Yup I'm going to go out and try in a few, just waiting for it to cool down a little before I start

i have seen a few were people do not pay attention to the depth of the hole and bottom the bolt out and bind it up .

I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case. I've had the bolts out numerous times. Because I keep breaking center pins of the springs.

But could of been now that I think about it because I was tightening them on the trail, and maybe u bolt got loose enoight to allow me to over tighten the bolts
