I was givin a 14ff the other day and yesterday I got a chance to pull the cover and see what was inside.
When I pull the cover and tried checking for the gear ratio I foudn that the brakes were froze and I couldn't get the diff to turn. So I was a little dissapointed... But I was wiping a few things off and I looked down at the pinion. As I wiped of the pinion stub that comes through the bearing I see 41-11....

So I guess the mark the ratio on the pinion in these also!?!?!?!

Oh, and it is an open carrier! Cool Beans! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Weldin time!

I believe most gears have the P/N and tooth counts on both the ring and pinion (not all in the same location though). Brings to mind Dyeager535's old signature
"Why insist on counting when the ring gear has the tooth counts stamped in?"

Cool beans though, sounds like you are getting ready to be LOCKed and loaded (Lincoln Style /forums/images/icons/cool.gif)

I am going to with lower gears and redo the axle(earings and such) and go to discs.. This will be a winter/Fall/side project.

Sweet, doing it once, and doing it right.

Built not bought all the way......../forums/images/icons/cool.gif

Incase ya didn't know, 41-11 equals 3.73's. 41 teeth on the ring gear and 11 teeth on the pinion. Divide the 2 and you get the ratio. If ya did know....then hehe, I just wasted a couple minutes typing......... /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

You seem to have your beans in a row about gears. What is your opinion on replacing them yourself. I have my box sitting in front of me and I am getting cold feet.

My fault, I wasn't thinking, sorry... Guess I just got too excited finally working on something again and wasn't paying attention...

Well, My brother set his up and they are holding together fine so far.... We will be doing this one also.. We dont have all the tools needed, the only thign we're missing is a pinion depth checker, but his had a nice wear pattern so whatever he did worked.. Althoguh he is a machinist...
