This here thread is in dire need of some Renolds Wrap head gear
My Grandpa was a free mason, also a secretive man.
Freemasonry is a fraternal organization whose membership is held together by shared moral and metaphysical ideals and—in most of its branches—by a constitutional declaration of belief in a Supreme Being.
While it has often been called a "Secret Society", it is more correct to say that it is an esoteric society, in that certain aspects are private; Freemasons have stated that Freemasonry has, in the 21st century, become less a secret society and more of a "society with secrets." Most modern Freemasons regard the traditional concern over secrecy as a demonstration of their ability to keep a promise and a concern over the privacy of their own affairs. "Lodge meetings, like meetings of many other social and professional associations, are private occasions open only to members." The private aspects of modern Freemasonry deal with the modes of recognition amongst members and elements within the ritual.
i have a old masons coin of sorts i would like to get i.d. to find out what its for and any other info on it.
Im just gonna go out on a limb and assume they sit around, drink beer, and think of ways to drive us crazy since we dont know what they are actaually doing.
Where do I sign up
My grandfather was/is one, I have his masonic ring. I remember him telling me when I was younger that he was going to give me this ring and if I ever needed help, to find some certain people and show them the ring and they would help. I had forgot about the conversation until sometime when I was 21 or so and he said he had something for me, but didn't say what it was. I was on my way to their house from out of state. The whole drive, that conversation kept popping into my head. Sure enough, that's what it was. Said he wanted me to have it now rather than later to make sure I got it.
Anyway, I've talked to a few, and it seems to be, like stated above, an organization of men who share similar veiws in morals and supreme being. I've also been friends with a few, and they were all just good 'ol boys for the most part. A lot like most of us here on CK5. I share a lot of the same beliefs as they do, but I'm not a religious person, so I didn't persue it any more. It does come to mind from time to time though.
They are also descendents of the "Knights Templar". The group of Knights that during the Crusades found and protected the Holy Grail. They took vows of poverty, celibacy and secrecy but eventually became one of the richest and most powerful organizations in the Middle Ages, until the Roman Empire deemed them a threat to Christianity and had them tortured till they confessed to false sins. They were then burned alive at the stake.
I've met one thru my work once, he had on his ring and I knew what it meant so I asked him about it. I think I remember him saying their views on religion are a little different. They look at Jesus Christ as just being a man, not necessarily the Son of God. I believe that's how he put it, it's been awhile.
