I'm looking for new tires for the tow rig. The ones I have right now still have lots of tread left, but are P-rated tires and I wanted LT-rated for the back. But whenI looked up a few LT tires, the single load is barely above 2k pounds on the highest rated tire that fits the Burb. The P-rated are showing 2148lbs for single load onthe sidewall. So am I to assume my P tires would be better for the added weight of the trailer than LT tires? I'm going on vacation next month and driving 1800 miles one way. I dont want catastrophic (sp?) tire failure out on the road, especially with the trailer in tow.

what size are looking for?

the load range for a lt should be higher then p type tire

my lt 245/75/16 (snow tire) on the burb are rated at 3042

The ones on there now are P255/70R15 and the ones I'm looking at for replacements are LT235/75R15, which is the stock tire size IIRC.

Edit: I found some more info. I looked up my tires to see what info I could find. According to the website I used for the LT tires, my P tires are only rated for 1900 lbs single load. But the sidewall says otherwise. Which should I go by?

search for something with a D or even a E load range. Larger tires will have a higher load rating then a smaller tire (generally) , I run a 285/ 75/16 on my dodge it is a load range D and it's ratings are higher then my dad's tires (255 / 75 / 16) that are load range E's.

Search on tirerack.com or discount tire direct, I have used them both and had good luck with them.

I think I'm just going to have to get 16" rims, cuz I cant find a tire that fits a 15" in anything higher than a Load Range C. Or I can really piss off my wife and go with rednecks duals (using the adapter, not the actual dual hubs).:D

Just some addt'l info, the trailer weighs in at ~5500 lbs loaded with 1000 lbs on the tongue. I'm using a WD hitch, but the rear tires bag alittle with all the weight, but we've made shorter trips (under 4hrs on the road) with no problems.

Yeah you will have a hard time finding 15" tires for more than C range.
16" is where the good stuff is.
However if the trailer you are towing is only 5500 lbs and no more than 1000 lbs tongue weight, your P tires will do fine.
But if you are shopping for tires in the mindset that you might get a bigger trailer and require more out of your tires then yes get 16" rims and some E rated tires.
I love my E rated tires.

I dont need a bigger trailer, I was just concerned because the tire bag a little and I dont need to pull a Firestone on the highway. Quick way to ruin a vacation:p:
