Anyone know what the engine code SMC stands for?

I'm planning a rebuild on a 350 in my 86 K5. I've researched the block, and found it to be a 99 Vortec - casting / 10243880, Date code B099

On my block, driver side rear, I have a casting of "SMC" I have searched the net & cannot find any reference to SMC regarding Chevy engine blocks. I have seen pictures of similar blocks with the code SGI - Spherodial Graphite Iron - referring to block material, but nothing on SMC.

Can anyone help me out on this one?

Thanks in advance

That casting number covers a lot of vortex motors.... I can't find that exact code either...

It maybe possible it was a marine version in it's former life,,,reverse rotation even....I guess you would need to pull the pan and valve covers to get the casting numbers off of the heads and crank....

maybe even the cam numbers too...is it a roller?

Sometimes casting codes are a little rough and hard to read. Double check those letters.
I found this page that gives a lot of info, but those letters are not shown.

I dont have the original heads, running a pair of darts on it right now. It was a factory roller. Don't have the crank out yet, but hopefully later today if the "To DO" list gets a little smaller
