I am looking into making some custom bumpers for my 79. Just wondering if those of you who made their own have specs for some? I would like some d-rings spot light mounts and possibly a winch( don't have one now oh how i would love one).

I have made so bumpers. Double wall 1/8 thick steel. It's really just about being carefull with the measurements and mounting points. You can add anything you want as far as mounts and stuff. I used half inch thick plate for the winch mount, straight to the frame, kinda separte from the bumper. I can't post pics, but I could email some if you want.

Big thing is keep them level and center. I used 2" rec front and back for winch or rack. Be carefull on rear not to get close to tailgate.

can tuck a winch in behind and use the tubes as a fairlead, clevis tabs are 3/4" plate that is also the bumper mount, run right through for max streangh, little fender protection, light tabs just added a cb anntena mount, and of course the ck5 sticker adds at least 10 if not 15 HP!

I made the one I have on the truck now. it's solid but it's ugly beyond words.:D 1/2" plate to 3/8" channel.
btw, on mine the distance from the outside edges of the front framerails is 28". in the spring I'm gonna make a matching rear bumper.

looks great! but whats up with the headlights? that looks sick! Did you just take some from a 90 and fab them up sideways like that? lotta work? any extra wiring?

You mean like these?
Rear is my own design.....

Front is a KMA bumper that I moved back and up so it would be closer to the body. Chopped and capped the ends for a cleaner look.

the "head lights" are flood lights with tw bulbs in each, two on each side, they are my low beams and i use the spot lights for highs, and the yellows for fog and snow (they really work)

i will be up gradeing to some name brand 8" spots for my new bumper.

all my lighting ( heads, spots, fogs, guages, and parking light) are all controled by this switch box I custom made, all 30amp relays.

Still saving for a winch, but it was mocked up with an M10,000 that fits under the core support.

i like you bumpers rene, i dont think i had seen any pics of them up close befor, or for that matter of you up close:thinking:

You'll note the Christmas lights that are 'on' in the first few pic's. Snapped them this morning...

I wanted to contribute to this thread but realized that i never did take any decent shots of the front up til now.

Close ups of me? Not gonna happen any time soon. I'm an ugly focker. :haha:

I had an extra hour at work with a few rems of 2x4 heavy wall box tubing and this is what I came up with. Not bad for an hours work less undercoating it, I had it on and drove home with up front..

I was thinking of also making a switch box for my lamps and OBA.
Where were you thinking of mounting your box?

I have no dash pad anymore ( too good) so i made a brackit and screwed it to the face of the dash, it sits about 5 inchs away from the dash angeled towards me, above the radio, about where the ac vent used to be. works great never a problem.

Ill get a pic of it instaled when i get my card reader in the mail, i fubared my usb port on my cam.

also Rene, did you build thouse bumpers? or have them done?

i like the clevis mounts useing tube, keeps them strate, might think about that for my next set of bumpers

I was thinking of removing one of my vents to put the switch box there seeing that my a/c dont work anyways...
