are 35\'s gonna be OK?

i have an '89 k5 /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif with a 4" suspension lift and 33" tires right now and i need to know what i would need to upgrade up to some 35's. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif i heard id probably have to do a 1" body lift and upgrade the brakes. is that is or is there sumthin else i should know about? any help would be appreciated thanks

Re: are 35\'s gonna be OK?

yeh on my truck since i didnt want to cut my primo fenders, i had to do a 2" body lift. Of course I have 14.5" wide tires, dont know how wide you are goin. Brakes, I didnt look at your profile and see if you still have 1/2ton axles, if so, and you plan on keepin em, theres a few places that sell different rotors, hi-po pads etc. If you plan on a 3/4 or 1ton swap, you will get the bigger brakes in that swap, so if it was me (and i planned on 3/4 or 1ton in the somewhat near future)I would save the brake $$ on the 1/2ton stuff and wait for 3/4 or 1ton brakes w/ new axles.

It all depends on how wide your tires are, how wide the rims are, and what backspacing you have. I run Q78's on 5.5" wide rims with about 4" backspacing. When i first mounted them they measured 36.25x10.5". I run a 2" BL, and thats it. No trimming, no suspension lift. heres a pic:

Tires dont rub anywhere but the pitman arm.

EDIT: missed your brake question. With the heavy Q's on, i can still lock up the tires. I think the truck stops better with the Q's than my radial BFG's.

im not sure what type axle i have because im new to the whole off road life style, but i do know the the front ones differential is off to one side it says 1500 on the side of it in the molding

35's should work great with what you have (I wouldn't go any bigger, though). You have 10 bolt corporate axles (Front & rear). I wouldn't put any money into them, because they are just about good enough to get from point a to b, and back. Welcome to the board!

Right at this minute my K5 is sitting on 36's with a 5yr old flattened out 4" lift. I cut some of the fenders, wish I wouldn't have now. Never had a rubbing issue.

You should be fine, but like said earlier depends on the width size of tire, rims, and back spacing.

Oh and the brakes aren't an issue.
