Tech question here- how different are the internals of art carr/winters shifters? Is a shifter assembly designed for a TH350 drastically different from a 727 or is the main difference just in the transmission shifter bracket? Reverse vs. standard gating, is it just the lettering and gates that are different?

A friend of mine has a non-TH400 shifter and I want to know if I can make it work on my TH400-- any thoughts?

I'm not sure if the throw between the lever is the same. You might try and do a part number search on both trasmissions and see if there is a parts list on there too. This should list the part numbers for everthing that comes in the box. If the shifter number is the same then you can be sure it's the same and just a the brackets that make up the overall part number.

Most shifters by any manufacturer will share the same shifting mechanisms for different manufacturers trannies . With automatics , a 3 speed is a 3 speed , a 4 speed is a 4 speed etc etc .

The difference is the bracketry for the cable/rod on the transmission . Thats all they change .

There wont be a difference in the parts sitting on the floor/cage/console . It all looks the same in the interior .

call up artcarr.. but as pauly said, its the size and shape of the bracket on the trans that is the deciding factor

From the winters style shifters I have seen it is the same body just different gates installed in the body. 4 speed or 3 speed are the same basic shape and size.

The hookup of the cable to the transmission changes like said above.
