I have a '66 suburban with the original 4spd. and the divorced Rockwell t-case. I can't decide if I shoud swap in a 700R4, 4L80E, or just add a Gear Vendors to my original drivetrain. The autos would be easier to drive, but the 4spd. granny low first is great off road and being able to split gears seems like it would make for a better tow rig. What do you guys think? Anyone have expierence with any of these trannys in older rigs? Thanks.

New GV cost big bucks. Try to find a nice used one.

And, are you sure they have an adapter for your tranny?

Yeah, I know the GV OD is expensive:yikes:, but I have a line on a good rebuilt one. The guy at a local drivetrain shop told me I should adapt it to the transfer case. I really wouldn't need it in 4wd anyway and the driveshaft between the tranny a t-case isn't very long.

If you have a line on a rebuilt for cheaper than 2k go for it.

Just in case it wasn't clear, I meant the GV overdrive.

What are your driveing plans for it? how fast or slow do you need to go?
I have a 465 in my burb, the granny gear was an dubble low range before I had a dubbler.
If you plan on towing with it, you wont be using the OD gear anyways.

I plan to use it occasionally to tow my boat, and I only live like 3 miles from the launch ramp. Right now I have an SM420 tranny and 4.11 gears with 35" tires, but I'll be puting on some 37 inchers real soon.

I really want an OD for cruising on the highways. I was just wondering if anyone had any expierence with a Gear Vendors and a 4 spd? Thanks for the replies.
