So i want to switch to locking hubs and i have checked on the warn website and it says "vehicles with full time 4wheel needs a transfer case conversion Spindle nut kit." Now I am not stupid enough to think mine is full time 4wheel...is it? I saw the thread about switching out hubs, looked pretty straight forward. What does chevy have thats full time 4wheel?

thnx T:doah:he obvious cant be right...

What year is your truck? All you need to do is order the Hub kit and install it. That is how mine worked and the last three I just did worked the same way. You should be fine. Good luck

If your transfercase shifter has 5 positions on it, then it is (at least originally) full time 4WD. That doesn't get into the conversion kits and what not, but I believe the conversions still kept the "full time" hubs. That was only pre-80, not sure exactly what years the 203 was used. The axle is what's going to govern which aftermarket hubs you need.

I believe all the 203 axles just had a metal cap over the hub area, while the automatic locking hubs used in the '80's (all hubs are locking BTW) had a bolted on chromed piece with a "4x4" sticker on it.

If your auto hubs are held on with 6 bolts you dont need the spindle nut kit.
If held on with 3 bolts you need the spindle nut kit.
Dont need the part time kit with either of the above.
if you have to pry off a silver cap to get into the hubs you have full time 4x4 and need the part time kit.

On a 91 3/4ton burb, auto hub covers with 5 bolts, do i need the spindle nut kit?

Never had to do anything of the sort.
I believe it's for the later models that had the heated element switch for 4wd engagement, which did the disconnect on the inside of the axle not the outer ends.
Your auto's will come out and the manuals will go in.

Hah, look who it is.

There are no locking hubs at all on the newer style you are talking about. My understanding is some auto to manual conversions require the kit.

But yah, just trying to cover my possiblities and educate myself. Guess we'll find out real quick what works!

Thanks.
