My friend is trying to buy a front Dana 60 and found this one advertised as a "Super Dana 60" from a 2005-2010 F350. I'm not too sure about these newer Dana 60's and how he could tell if it really was a Super Dana 60 or just a Dana 60, so I thought I'd post up to see if anyone has input.

This is what's cast into the axle:
535 17E
256_CF

This is what is on the "Sticker" still on the housing:
D-286-B
5C34_3002_AU

Thanks for any help!

On the corner of the housing it will have a 60F molded into the housing. = Dana 60 Front, i have no idea what a Super dana 60 is.

Not sure on info on a "super 60" other then aftermarket setups called super 60's. But a FYI, that axle is a ball joint and unit bearing axle, should be a 60, and it is from a super duty , that's all I can tell you

So maybe just a high pinion D60 from a Ford then since it is an 8 lug. I think Ford ran the D60 in various Super Duty trucks from 78 to 98. There should be a BOM or Bill of Material number on the axle tube. It should have a set of numbers that looks like xxxxxx-x possibly preceded by a 60.

this axle is a 2005-up radius arm coil spring front dana 60.

it is missing the lockout hubs from the ends.

its missing the drw 8lug to bigger pattern adaptors. you can see the outline on the rotor face were the studs are of the adaptors that would have been there.

and from what i have read there is little support for upgrades in the aftermarket.

plus its ball joint style and ford specific stuff on it.

for that price with custom mods and time to convert to a usefull setup the way we like them around here its not worth it in the end.

edit after reading this http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/techarticles/drivetrain/131_0906_dana_super_60_front_axle/index.html

that is not a true super 60. that looks more like a reg f250-f350 std front end that might have been a f350drw . i would cancle the sale or get refund and just find a reg dana 60 from gm or 78-79 high pinion ford or any 80-up king pin axle and custom mod to fit buggy builds.

much more avalible in parts . all comon stuff and over the counter parts. that ford 60 listed is realy a wast of time if you ask me for a offroader. great for a pulling truck / super high hp/tourqe monstor . but not needed for everyday trucks.

heck i have read that stock dana 60 with spicer joints/35 spline stubs and locker will hold up offroad for years with little to no trouble.

Pretty sure that those later Fords use a metric bolt pattern rather than the common 8x6.5, big time food for thought.

I'm pretty sure he decided to not go this route after the feedback you guys have shared. In fact, I think he bought a Dana 70 housing that he plans on cutting and putting 60 outters on. I'll see if I can get some pics from him to post up.

Thanks for the help guys.
