where how do you decode axle ratio stamping code ?

KAH 1977 K-10 pickup 12 bolt

google has been no help so far

thanks for anything

I dont know what KAH means, but why dont you just count the teeth on the ring gear and on the pinion gear and divide them together?

I've always wondered if you have ever tried to do this without removing the carrier. I don't know how you can?

But the ratio should be stamped into the ring gear.

Put it on a floor jack, block one tire on diffs with L/S or open carrier and spin tire one complete turn. Pinion will turn 3 3/4 turns for 3:73 or a little over
4 1/2 for a 4:56.... etc....

Rig must be in neutral :eek1: !

yeh theres always that way of checking it, but whe i do it it never seems ot come up right and them im still unsure and i am not ready to pull covers and change fluid yet but its on my list of to do things for this rig of course, as it should be for all rig owners

i guess i will have ot call the chevy dealer counter in the morning or go out there and have them look it up

seems that the internet has zero info on axle codes

i was hoping that maybe by now there would be something, but i guess there isnt, nor ever will be

i really hope the axles are 3.73 so i can dump the 12 bolt and put a common 14FF 3.73 under it

it seems like it drives like 3.73 but im just not for sure, it just doesnt seem sluggish like 33" and 2.73 or 3.07 would be, unless its just the 400sbc working good,

dunno

*crosses fingers*

thanks :D

well crap its 3.07 ratio

damn

welp im just gonna keep the 33" tires and not put in an FF 14 bolt axle

gonna remain a stock original K-10

saves alot of work and $ i guess,

just gonna be a daily driver, as it is right now and always has been

it must not have really ever been wheeled much, as i checked the frame rail and its not cracked or anything, and theres no where to wheel here anyways, at all

now to trim the fenders so the 33" wont rub anymore

hmm

thanks
