I've read the only difference between the Edelbrock Performer and Performer RPMs is that the Performers have a heat crossover which apparently makes them 50 state smog legal. Casting is supposed to be exactly the same otherwise. The Performers are also $70 cheaper each. What does a heat crossover do?? What are the pros and cons?

Thanks!

Close, but you can get the Performer RPM (non air gap) with the exhaust cross over. But, you can't get the Performer RPM with an EGR valve.

Saying the only difference between the Performer RPM and Performer is due to the exhaust crossover is highly false. Edelbrock sells a Performer Air gap which does not exhaust crossover. In fact Edelbrock sell many different versions of the Performer and Performer RPM for the small and big block.

The difference between the two intakes is the port size and RPM you plan to run.

As for legal for sale for an emission control vehicle, the performer (most likely the EGR version, there is also a cheaper non EGR version) is considered as a stock replacement intake. The RPM is not.

Thanks for the education on the Edelbrock intakes. But, like the title of the thread says, I'm looking for some schooling on the heat crossover on the Edelbrock heads.

I just compared both heads and it does appear that the only difference is with or without exhaust crossover as you've said. Exhaust crossover is a dual function, helps the engine warm up quicker and also keeps the throttle blades from icing in very cold climate weather.

Thanks guys. With as hot as it gets here in SA and how cold it doesn't get, should I avoid the Performers with the heat crossover? Or in this case it doesn't really matter?

I would get the one with the exhaust crossover.
