went to put new joints in the D44 that i bought, and the damn ear is bent in, so i can't install the new joint. I shattered the cap on a brand new u-joint today. what is the best way to bend the ear back out? or would i be better off getting a different stub shaft? please help!! I want to install these axles next saturday. putting this joint in and repacking the bearings is all i have left to do before then. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

you COULD, heat it and bend it back, but thats supposed to be a pretty exact measurement i would believe..

Time for a new shaft. There's no bending it back.

thanks, That's all I needed to hear. When I swap the D44 for the 10 bolt, I'll just use one of the stub shafts off of my 10 bolt. I just need to make sure I get another new U-joint between now and then. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I agree with 84_Chevy_K10, Once the shaft is bent or twisted it is stressed and the metal can become fatigued (I.E. snap crack, pop). It is best to get a true one at a junk yard or similar and maybe use that one as an emergency spare.

Can't I just use one out of my 10 bolt that I'm swapping out for the D44?

AFAIK if it is the stub shaft they can be swapped L to R and D44 to 10B

thanks guys. looks like i'll be swapping stub shafts out next saturday when i do the swap. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

unless one of you wants to send me one before hand that way i can put the new joint in this week. that way i will only have to swap the axles and not mess with switching them out next weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
