Any one ever run into this? I knew the switch was going bad. I can usually turn the truck on without the key. This time i started it up, without the key and I felt it stick. Now, with or without the key, the switch won’t move.
Also need suggestions on how to kill the engine?

remove power from the distributor by disconnecting the wire from the cap

Wire a switch in line with the distributor power so you can kill it from inside.

the ignition switch and the key cylinder are 2 different things on a gen 2 k5. the switch is bolted to the column under the knee bolster.
there a rod connecting the Key cylinder to the switch. Since you can turn the cylinder w/o the key I am guessing you need a new cylinder.
Have tor remove wheel and get into column just below turn signal switch to replace key cylinder. you probably need new Ignition key I bet it is worn out as well.

I looked through your build but didn't see anything specific, do you have a floor shifter now? I've had the shift collar on the column turn some and it will prevent the key from turning off.

I also noticed you know Roller, small world. He used to live stay (lol) in Alabama, he taught me a TON back in the day - still does but we don't talk enough now that he's in Tx.

Yeah, I’ll tear into it this week to see exactly what the issue is. Thanks for the info.

I’ll check that too, I know for sure the cylinder is needing replaced.

Yeah! I met Roller in 2011, I bought a set of axles from him and since then he has been a huge help with getting my blazer where it is today. He is a wealth of information, I always make it a point to go by his place when I’m in Texas.

Best safety net is to install EFI?

I once had an overheating carbed engine that would not stop running when the ignition was turned off. It was dieseling, I suppose. After removing the air cleaner, it took several seconds for rags shoved onto the carb to smother it out.

Drop in gear will normally stop a dieseling gas motor, with ignition off. carb was dripping fuel bad float wrong lvl setting and or idle speed screw holding throttle plates open, stuck throttle shaft. All can cause dieseling, probably few more things.

Hand choke works to snuff out a dieseling gas engine pretty good too..

We had one engine "run away" at the junkyard when the throttle butterflies jammed open, and it wouldn't stop dieseling even after we forced the throttle shaft back to the idle position as much as it'd go --boss came out with a CO2 fire extinguisher and one shot of that snuffed it right out..:D

If a plastic bag is handy, those work better than a rag to smother the carb ,rags came still let enough air thru for the engine to keep dieseling..
