kinda funny how the largest state in the nation known for oil has banned biodiesel

Well, the stuff raises certain pollutants that texas is federally mandated to reduce.

Asshats

yup.. this is the first time I've heard of a state's air quality department putting down the kool - aid and admit biofuels aren't perfect.

Texas gets "punished" by the feds for bad air, when the problem is three major areas: Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, and El Paso. El Paso gets 90% of it's smog from Mexico, but no matter to the feds.
Hell, Texas has even banned the use of "waste oil heaters" because they "pollute".
I'm all for clean air, clean water, and nice roads to drive on, but this control, tax and spend socialism BS has gone a bit too far.

I thought that most people just made that a home. Like having a still.

oh no.. huge agribusiness concernes like archer daniels midland are behind all of this.. that's how biofuels have risen to prominence.. agribusiness cuts the checks, the gov't legislates in favor of it.

big oil vs. big agriculture.. clash of the titans.

of course, this creates a climate for small manufacturers too, so yeah, that includes the backyard guys.. that also accounts for the varied outcomes of the finished product.

to amend an earlier comment I made, I think the way this will shake out is that the producers can still make it in TX if they have a plant there, but they'll have to sell it out of state.

I misunderstood what you were originally talking about. I associated "biodiesel" with the home made cooking oil stuff. I didn't even think about the commercial stuff, so yeah, its all about the $$$.

Poor Willie...

I bet Willie Nelson is pissed--he just started a Bio-diesel company in Texas either last year or this year!...:doah: --he's having a bad year--first he gets busted for weed, now this!... ..

I see.. well, lots of people use the terms interchangeably.. the veggie oil stuff is WVO, and there are some folks who make a biofuel out of animal fats.

thing is, with gov't grants, mandates, and tax credits, lots of things are being pushed as replacement fuels, without concern for the effects on the equipment, environment, or anything else..

it's an interesting subject when you dig into it, and follow the money.

So now the cops will pull over any truck that smells of either pot or french fries?

Poor guy:( .................Bio-diesel isnt the best fuel for diesel components. I have heard of it killing injector pumps, injectors... I will just use plain'ol diesel fuel in my cummins.

FWIW...

When I talked to Tim from Accurtate Diesel, he said the only problem he has seen with bio on the 6.2 and 6.5 is that it is not very compatable with the o-rings in the injection pump.

Nope, but if it's used doughnut oil your in a WORLD of hurt brother:rotfl:

that sucks bigtime. lots of people get biodesel and wvo mixed up. I run straight heated wvo in my truck, everyone always asks me about my biodiesel. its the same stuff, except the biodesel has had the glycerin removed from it using lye and methanol which makes it thin enough to run without a heated system.
I guess if you get pulled over there smellin like fries, you'll have to tell them you filled up outof state huh? what can they do?
