Blazer Bash 2011 safety inspections

I think it was done in good fun. They checked theirs and found them loose. Then thought to check a couple more. The story just got better as it went along.

It was all in good fun and a good thing to be aware of. Perhaps a better one than pitman arm nut torque would be U bolt torque. I bet most u bolts aren't checked often enough, Daily, and therefore tight enough.

I for one have bolts that are torqued to a much lower value than the bolt itself is capable of being torqued to. There are various reasons for this but if someone said oh that 3/4" grade 8 fine thread bolt should have 240 ft/lbs of torque on it per industry standard and decided to tighten it to that on my rig they would cost me about $100 in ruined spacers. Sometimes there is a difference between the torque that is specified and the torque that is needed is my point I guess.

Also keep in mind that I have had a few things through the years that people have done to "help" out on my vehicle and I have ended up redoing their work or finding it wasn't the way it needed to be done for the application. I am just a bit overly sensitive to others working on my stuff.:dunno:

I thoroughly agree with that. If I se something that needs attention on anything not mine, I just bring it to their attention. Help if they ask.

I had a guy help me with the design on the front suspension on the Jimmy. He was the expert. Cut it all out 3 months later.

I get weird when I see someone under my truck.

I originally wrote,"I get weird when I see someone under my truck, that I did not run over."

Thought better of it.

Can u define Roll Cage? My 72 has a soft top. I also have a 4 point mounted bar, I believe a factory option. Will it pass? I have been to Moab twice before in the blazer. I am strongly considering registration and attendance, but want to get all my ducks in a row...

The rule probably should have read, roll cage factory top or factory roll bar.

That will be fine as long as it is mounted solidly ( just to the floor is fine) the factory top on those years ( any full vert for that matter) really doesn't do much.

So yes the factory roll bar will be fine in a truck like yours

I figured as much and registered tonight... It will be a blast. Can't believe I am giving up a weekend of archery hunting to do this... Oh well

Always good to have company.

As was mentioned, the factory bar should be fine. Just check for loose bolts or rust in the immediate areas before you try it out

so an in cab cage in a 4runner just mounted to the floor will be fine? also have the factory roll bar in the back...

Yes, runners technically wouldn't be required a full cage just the factory bar in back and the factory hard top.

So yes a in cab cage with the factory bar in back will be more than sufficient

A couple weeks left guys.

Get those tow hooks on!

Get those CBs working

I am betting most of you guys already have seatbelts, if not get em in.

The first aid stuff, the cb, and a tow strap all can be had in Moab, little harder to put tow hooks on

Get em done. This is the bare minimum you need everyone has to have the highlighted items on the list to participate in Blazer Bash sponsored runs

Get em done

Hooks are cheap and easy to get at the junkyard, just make sure to bolt them on and use good quality bolts. I personally use grade 8s, like a winch cable this is nothing you want to see break...

If this was already covered, sorry, too lazy to re-read everything :p
