Maybe the lounge is the more appropriate place for this, I'm not sure.

I've been trying to fix up my Blazer for about a year now. I've replaced a lot of the sterring, fixed up the inside a bit, replaced the exhaust, etc. But I just haven't had the time I've needed.

About 2 months ago, I bought a new lift kit, shocks etc. and I've been disappointed that I haven't had time to do the work. So, early this week, I took it to some local guys that do a lot of work on 4x4s, including many Blazers. There are good guys. So, it's in the garage today, when this happens....

You can see my truck on the lift in the first part of the video. It got so hot, the lift is melted!

More importantly, I hope and pray the guy that got burned is okay. I can buy another truck but I wouldn't wish getting burned on anyone. I'll get some more images tomorrow and update you all on the status of the injured.

One more thing....I don't have anything but liability. I guess their insurance will cover it...maybe?

Sucks to hear that, I hope the guy involved has a good recovery. I had 3rd degree burns on my feet and man did it suck. If the shop is anything like the way my dealership is, there insurance will cover it.

Wow I am really sorry to hear that. I hope the guy that got burned has a good recovory.

I would imagine that the shop insurence would take care of your truck.

First smart ass comment - (not meant in a bad way)
that's what you get for not doing the work yourself...

Second -
That sucks, hope everyone is ok... If they have insurance, you'll be fine.
Look at it as a reason to upgrade :)

WOW:eek1: that really sucks, for you and that man. I hope he is okay, like Ben, ive been burned, and it sucks. i hope he'll be okay. and hopefully theyll cover your rig, too.

i am so sorry, i know its easy to buy another truck, but it still sucks to loose one that way. especially when you have to deal with insurance companies. I really hope they dont give you too much grief regarding recepits and whatnot for all the money invested in the truck.

as for the burned man, it goes without saying that i hope he recovers well. its like i tell most people that ask why im such a gear head. i like fixing things, and its a helluva lot easier to fix something mechanical, than something biological. much respect to all the doctors that help us all out when we mess ourselves up.

Man.... that suxs I feel for ya bro I would have such a lost feeling. Just seeing your rig and what looked like a burb made me feel like a friend was gone. I found this out earlier this week it should help you.

The value of your "totaled" car may surprise you.
Auto-insurance companies don't use the standard Kelley Blue Book or National Association of Automobile Dealers value. Instead, each company has its own proprietary list of car values, and most have specialized software for valuing cars in each region. They take into consideration the car's mileage and pre-accident condition.

The insurance company may also ask local dealers what they'd charge for a similar replacement car. However, the insurer will consider quotes from suburban towns as reasonable estimates, even if you live in the city. You might have to drive several hours to reach the cheapest dealer, just to save the insurance company money. And they might be quoted a better deal than you could get if you walked onto the lot.
Tip: If you disagree with your insurance company's value determination, there are several things you can do:
  • Next time, get "gap" insurance. It will pay the difference between what an insurer will cover and what you owe, which can be several thousand dollars. If you have maintenance records that show you've had the oil changed every 3,000 miles and you've had the car checked routinely by a mechanic, present copies to the insurance company to show the car was in good condition. If you've been paying premiums on any special parts or upgrades, make sure those are included in the insurance company's evaluation. Get price quotes on replacement cars from three dealers within a reasonable driving distance and submit these to your insurance company. Ask the insurance company for a list of dealers within a specific distance who can sell you an equivalent car for the value the company is claiming.
  • If you still aren't satisfied, you can step up the process and go to mediation or arbitration. Mediation involves presenting your case to a neutral party for help in reaching a compromise; arbitration is a binding decision. You can also, of course, take the issue to court.
You may not owe sales tax on your replacement car.
Twenty-eight states require auto insurers to pay for the sales tax when you replace your totaled vehicle with a new or used car: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Tip: Make the request; don't expect the insurer to offer to pay upfront. Even in states that do not require sales-tax reimbursement, you should request it. Many auto insurers will not deny the request because the policy requires that they make you "whole," returning you to where you were before the accident at no cost to you

The tax will be calculated based on the pre-accident value of your car. If the insurance company values your car at $10,000, and you purchase a new car for $20,000, the tax will be calculated on $10,000.
Claim diminished value. If you have a collision policy, your insurance company will pay for the repairs after an accident. However, is the financial damage really fixed? Not necessarily. A car that has been in an accident and had the body fixed may look the same, but it won't sell for the same price. Would you pay the same for a car that has been in an accident?

A car that has been in an accident might be worth $2,000 less than a similar un-damaged car. This is called "diminished value," and may be covered by your policy. However, diminished value is often not paid unless you push the point.

was your lift and other parts in the shop also? sorry to hear this, i hate dealing w/insurance companies, but remember the squeaky wheel gets quitened! my best to you and the injured worker!

sucks bro, hope your next one can mean as much as that one did to ya.

That was my first thought as well.

The lift was in the truck as well as a few other parts. I also had about $500 worth of fishing stuff in the back. Sucks.

wow that really sux.for you and the guy that was burned.hopefully insurence will cover both.i would also include any receipts for the parts that were going into the truck and anything else that you purchaces for the truck recently.that should all come back to you ewith the insurence claim.good luck.looks like the fire got a suburban also from the video.

Start gathering receipts, pics, info, even posts on mods you have done. Get info on the stuff in your vehicle. As soon as you can get pics of your burned blazer and what's inside. Lots of pics.

They are liable for everything. The employees did something that caused your vehicle to burn. Their insurance is supposed to pay but they may be reluctant. Any money they pay out cuts into their profit so why pay any out? They will probably try to low ball you as well that's why you need lots of info on what the replacement cost of your stuff / vehicle is.

Don't be afraid to threaten to take them to court either. They know court will cost them more than what you are asking so they don't want to go there.

Don't settle for less than you deserve. Stand firm and be matter of fact. Don't get mad or be an ass, it won't help any and may hurt you.

BIGGEST thing to remember when dealign with Ins companies.. THEY WILL low ball you. NEVER take tehir first offer/check they send you.
CALL and WRITE a letter, DONT cash the check they might send.

You WILL get more if you argue nicely, point out what you had in the car, physically (fishing stuff, diamond necklace etc...)
You have to play hard ball. :wink1:

Here are the pics....

Can't imagine losing the shop....Everything you've spent a lifetime putting together.

WOW!!!. That wont buff out. :eek1:

Hope the shop compensates you. I know some small shops have signs saying not responsible for your vehicle, which I cant understand cuz you cant babysit it and are dependant on them to take care of it.

Hope it works out for ya

RIP K5.

Sorry to hear about this. Hope ol' boy is ok.
