Blazer's Tow rigs

So thought I would do a little update, registered the truck. Had an exhaust leak so would not go through emissions. So fixed the exhaust leak.

Heard a rumor that if you register you vehicle as a Vintage you don't need emissions only safety, has to be over 30 years old.
So I now have Vintage plates :woot: cant drive it every day, how they can know that is beyond me but it is street legal. You do have to get a current safety but that is no big deal.

This opens a whole new can of worms for vehicles, and the Nova is getting totally built motor now :woot:

Of course if you didn't live in those counties you could get away without emissions and without vintage plates. Congrats on getting it licensed!

That makes sense then. In my case I plan to keep driving Krusty quite a bit once she is done, so vintage really won't work for me.

What is wrong with the current dash that you would want to swap another one in there???

Martin

Keith I have my 76CC, 77K5, 64Vette, and 68 Jeepster all registered with "authentic" plates...the same year plate as the vehicle...register it one time, and its good as long as I own the vehicle. It is "supposed" to be used for parades, shows, in transit repair, etc. but the couple times I have been stopped the cops never say anything about it.
I have my insurance through Grundy worldwide and they have a stated value policy. I pay about $1K a year for the 4 vehicles with a stated value of 98K. Policy is good all year, with broadform collision, comprehensive, road assistance, trip interuption, and NO deductibles.

Pad is cracked and I dislike that the factory gauges are not very informative. Plus I have a full set of Autometer gauges and nothing to do with them :dunno:

What are the Suspention plans? I have my 6" all spring tuff country lift kit for sale.

At this point nothing. Its only going to be a tow rig maybe some back country off road, but it would be just to go camping in it. I think if I did anything it would be a 56/63 swap thing rides like a tank now 6 in would be killer on the kidneys.

If I was to build a tow rig...

I would go 52/56. 52 stock springs for better stability on road yet still comfortable and some what flexy. 56" all spring rear. Highest lift would be 2" and 33" tires so no cutting on front fenders. Camper in the back and big trailer to pull ship with. 4 speed Manual trans, 205 case for better cooling. Clean body and fully loaded interior. 63" rears would be too soft for hauling and towing me thinks. My 6" tuff country all spring lift is super stiff when empty. But when I'm hauling heavy stuff it gives a better ride! And I'll tell ya I can put a lot of weight in the back of my truck!

Oh and I love the new rig Keith!

So I am contemplating not doing the swap this year.

I am basically broke.

Have not had much luck in finding a better paying job.

Need to sit down and figure out what is anything I am going to have to buy for the swap. I really don't need to do it the truck runs and works fine now, so have a bunch of thinking to do.

Done my thinking the gas mileage improvement has sealed the deal.

Gonna start on the swap rather quick.

Need to decide if I am doing a flat bad or keeping it a stock bed.

So will this haul the burb around or is it replacing it?

It is the tow rig for the burb.

May turn into a DD depending on how it all works out. Maybe just be able to sell the 98 and drive something that gets tons better mpg.

So I sold the flatbed off of the Dodge. Have some cash to start on the swap.

I have a question need some feedback

Which mount do I go with??

I know of two only, well three if I do some fabbing to get the Dodge ones to fit in the Chevy?

1. http://www.avalancheengineering.com/new_products.html
2. the other just uses the stock chevy mounts
cant find the web site right now

Just looking for opinions on the best way to do it

I'm not sure if you can set it up, but check out this and look at the mounts he is using. Mosesburb has a very nice cummins powered burb and towards the last few pages he talks about recently replacing the mounts.

Yeah I saw that when he posted it. The Autoworld place is nice but there mounts, the whole set up is around $600

The Avalanche Engineer kit is $400 which is about all I have to spend.

So may be just modding the factory ones to fit.
