Blazer's Tow rigs

Mainly a tow rig, but it also serves as general pick up truck duties.

I had the idea to DD once the swap is done could afford the gas then. My insurance would go down because I would have one less vehicle to insure. The 98 burb could go away.

Would like to be able to take it camping and stuff because it can hold the whole family and would get better gas mileage

Lemme know when I should come down to help pull the swap off :D I'd say you should go for it. There is some work involved, but it would really make that dually a lot more useful for pulling twinkie around with

If you really like the truck and want it to be all that it can be, then do the swap. There's no such thing as running out of money in the middle of a project. That's just a rest period while you accumulate more funds.

I have to basically finish it in like two months. Need it to tow Twinkie to Blazer Bash. Need some time to work on Twinkie to get it ready for the Bash.

Funds are rather low only about $500 to do the swap with, might have a bit more. So not sure that that is going to cut it. Even though I have the whole Dodge to swap parts from.

Russel think we could do it in a long week end :dunno:

I would just wait until after bash! Then you have all the time in the world! I bet you could do it in a long weekend if you werent messing with the intercooler as well. Probably more like 2 LONG weekends.

Yes, if you have all the parts lined up and we don't run into any trouble, I could fly into SLC and we could have it done in a day or two. I am going to be in town in mid August for our Vegas to Reno race and could definitely come a few days early to help ya out!

Maybe knock out the KDP while its sitting in the truck with the nose off? Need to do this to mine before it lets go on a cross country run...

Ok so I am calling tomorrow and getting the Kenworth parts so I can run the A/C comp and high mount alt.

Been talking to the place in MT about their parts the A/C and Alt mod are like $600 so not happening there. I am going to do their motor mount though.

Figure I can get the Kenworth parts put them on the motor make sure they work and stuff one less thing to worry about.

Going to start looking for some lift springs for the front in case I need them, from what i here its a 50/50 shot in needing them or not.

Going to get a clutch pedal assembly and get that all ready to go.

And in the mean time get some work done on the Burb too. :waytogo:

I met a kid a while back that had the high mount ac setup like mine but he sourced his through a big truck wrecking yard for around 300.00 including the ac compressor. I spent a bunch of time researching the part numbers to get mine and am probably into it 600.00 with the compressor. The kid pulled his from a big Ford up in you area somewhere. FYI:D

So called Cummins, only ones that had the parts, price is not all that bad, around $200 for all of them. However after talking to sixb found out that I have to get a new compressor also, so that is a couple hundred more.

So then I called Tenn. diesel conversions talked to Scott for a bit. Think I am going to go with his kit. Priced about the same as the AE kit with no issues that I have heard of. He, Scott, said the only thing the frame needs is a little trimming. Dave also said if he was to do it over he would trim the frame and do some boxing.

I have the steel and the welder and can use it a bit and its not going to cost me a few hundred to cut and weld on the frame.

Pretty sure I posted in this thread before, but don't get the "AE" kit. Even with 4" of lift, there is no clearance between the engine crossmember and diff.

That's what I have on my '84 K30 with a 12V, it took plenty of cutting/welding/modifying to give me decent bump travel with 3" of suspension lift. Plus the stupid thing had like 12 iterations of where to put the motor (up/down, front/back, etc) and it literally only fits in one. And the owner of AE had no idea of where to start on that. Putting a bunch of "adjustment" holes in a bracket is supposed to give options I guess, in this case, it gives a bunch of wrong guesses.

My .02, but having put a 12V in my '84 K30, there aren't a whole lot of options as far as where to put the engine without major firewall surgery.

And it fits, without really any major headaches, you just have to work around the engine fitting where it fits.

So a little update on the truck and swap.

Ended up selling the Dodge today put it for sale about a month ago guy out of WY ended up buying it going to do the same swap.

It really came down to a money and a time thing, got none of both really right now and don't see enough money flowing in the near future to keep storing it.

Have a 14 yr old that is wanting to start working on a car for her so........

took the one ton to the scrap yard today

it weighed 6700 lbs with my butt in it

dropped off my old washer made $13.00

First read that and thought you were scrapping the 1 ton.....:doah:
Last time my Crew dually went across the scale it was 7000. I weigh 270 and easily carry 300lbs of crap in the toolbox....

little bit of an update

put the second battery tray in now have dual batteries :waytogo:

Got a killer deal on two brand new Optima batteries. Both of them came from work if they sit on our shelf for over a year they go into the reconditioned program which means they get recharged then sold for a very good deal.

Paid $ 98 for both of them :woot:

They do it with all the batteries.

Every six months they get pulled and trickle charged. Now that I think about it is after a year and a half so three charging they get pulled and the stickers get taken off. Then they get sold as reconditioned.

Both of these were the weird looking red tops. The one is a side post only kind of has a wide top. The other is both side and top post and has the wider top.

Another bit of an update

decided to sell it

cant find the pictures :doah: going to have to go take some more. However if you know anybody interested will be posting a for sale add relatively soon, as in tomorrow.
