blew up my JL 10W7

had my w7 in my pathfinder till i sold the truck. started to build a new system and noticed it had cracks around the cone where it meets the surround. i took it in where i bought it and they will send it to jl for service. warranty is no longer valid it's been 2 years. i didn't think i had pushed it too hard! 800 watts max other than the time i hooked up a PPI A1200 at about 1400 watts! it kinda popped a little after that! /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Thats B.S. that much $$ for a sub and it should handle at least that much power. Was the place you bought it a JL authorized dealer? I thought it was 4 yrs (warranty) if they were?

yeah it was an authorized dealer. is it 4 years? cool! i thought it was only 1 year! i did have to pay $60 for shipping to and from factory. hoprfully they will go easy on me.$$$$ the sub almost looked dry rotted to me but the guy at shop said it looked like over excursion /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

they say 600 watts nominal but lots of people push them with 1000 i didn't think i was driving it that hard! what- what did you say again? /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif

That PPI amp puts out a lot more power than what it is rated for.

the A1200 was incredible! the first track i put in was TOOL- STINKFIST all i can say about the w7's is /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Don't forget if you drop the ohm's down it'll put out even more power yet. My MMATS amp is rated at 350 watts at 4 ohm, 700 watts at 2 ohm and 1400 watts at 1 ohm. ...ect. My MMATS D200hc is 1/4 ohm stable.

got a call from the stereo shop yesterday. JL sent me a new sub instead of repairing my old one! /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif
