ok I took up the rubber padding yesterday and there are big holes in the body (the tub, quarterpanels, etc). The back half of the truck isn't that bad. it really starts where the step down is. does anyone know what is the best way to replace this. should i order a replacement piece from jc whitney and weld in or what. I never did any body work before yesterday.

Check http://blazingcrows.tripod.com to see some pics of the job you might be getting into. Also, I think a search on usernames "riz" and "yunit" will turn up what some others have done. It's not impossible, but it ain't for the faint of heart.
