Do you have pictures of your exhaust? they both exit before the rears wheels? what mufflers?

I looked at the dash and its not factory :(. But it is a clean hole. As for the exhaust, both pipes end right before the rear tires and I was told it has flowmaster single stage mufflers, but I haven't checked.

free is good, but sometimes more work than its worth for some things.if the dash is already cut for a sterio,id just get a new one and install it as i said to.you can get both a positive and a keyed ignition wire from the head unit and plug them directly into the fuse block.then ground to the dash on one of the bolts holding the heater box to the firewall.thats what i did and runs good after ten years.then just run your wires to speakers wherever you decide to put them.

the radio is sounding easier by the day.
and as for my dad's blazer, the only pic i know of is him jumping it in the dunes. and i don't know what happened to it, but I'll ask him if he still has it.

:woot:

I took it out on the road after I finally got a new tire on it. And it can cruise at '70' (what speedo said) comfortably. When i got back I went online and punched some numbers and found out I was doing just over 75... Not bad for its first run.

got the gas tank on the ground :D. I think I did pretty good for never doing anything like this and just going for it... but it really wasn't that hard. I had to head back home - so I couldn't look inside it, but the some gas spilled out and it looked like a deep yellow, it that good or bad?

deep yellow no good.should be more clear.yellowing means its starting to varnish in there from sitting.you could probably just put in some 91 octane and slosh it around in there to clean it out good.couple gallons will do.and then you might be ok.put the gas coming out into a clear container and see if there is any junk in the bottom of tank after you clean it out.if it doesnt look too bad id just slap it back in and put a good filter in front of the carb an run it.

Its been a while, but i did get the gas tank finished. Peeked around inside it with an LED flashlight and it was somehow clean :eek1: :D. retarded the spark and changed all spark plugs and got it running smooth - but still a little rich, found out it's my carb leaking, gonna rebuild it this weekend. And I might be able to get my hands on some FREE military Humvee tires in a few months (should be either 35 or 37's). So while I'm tampering with that stuff, I was looking into switching to a 8 lug setup (don't have money for 1 tons - plus its a 71, so its got factory 12 bolts :wink1:. Also, I figure if I get 8 lug rims mounted and ready now, I won't have to worry when it comes time for 1 tons.) so could anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, I should be getting membership here within a week hopefully - then I will stat up a build thread in the 1st gen forums.

Going to an 8-lug D44 up front and an 8-lug 14BFF in the back is a great way to get started. As you mentioned, it helps spread out the expense a little bit since you can get the 8-lug tires and wheels first....then buy the D60 and crossover steering later on when you've got more money.

That's how I did it on my own build and it worked out great. The D44 8-lug parts are only around $200 (usually) and when you're done with them you can sell them to someone else and recoup all that money.

Here's one of the best articles I've ever seen on the topic. It's more than 7 years old now, but you'll learn everything you need to know. I'm glad I spent the time adding "tags" to it.....it made the "Search" easy for me. :wink1:

Thanks. (was hoping for a free solution but...) But, I might have to keep 6 lug for a little longer due to other reasons. Another thing I need to "fix" is that fact that its got a spool in the front. Know where I could get a cheap truetrac? (and I mean as cheap as possible - no job and I can't get a job for 2 or 3 months)

there is probably not gonna be a feww solution to go to 8 lug.but you could get the stuff you need at the junkyard for around 300 bucks.all you need is everything from the spindle out up front to convert that to 3/4 to 8 lug and also find a 14bff to slap under there.if you are only going to have 37 inch tires and dont plan on anything bigger.you could run what you have for awhile.just gotta be easy on it.the rear is the weakest link.i broke 3 of the 12 bolts on only 35 inch tires.but i was not easy on it either.the 14 bolt i still run with 35s and it will hang up a lil on rocks with the 35 inch tires but it will not break.ive also grinded the lip on it so it'll slide over rocks easier.the trutrac will be at least a couple hundred bucks or more.but itll make your axle shafts last longer on the front end if you stay with the dana 44.

37s are the biggest I'll go with for a while, and i want to stick with 35s for now. and my dad said 1 tons aren't really necessary unless I'm rock crawling a bunch. And I don't see too much of that in my future, more sand road and light trails. And is a truetrac for $415 good? It's as cheap as I can find one for my axle.

thats a better price than i found for a truetrac.cheapest i saw was 438.37s are pushing it for half ton axles.ive broken 3 12 bolts with 35's.my front axle has survived unscathed so far though.just a ujoint that needs rplaced.but it still works.i am 3/4 ton now so i dont break any more rear ends.
