Been on this board several years mainly for information, which it's full of, but realized I don't ever think I posted picts of my buildup that has been going on slowly over the last two winters. Bought this '84 about three years ago from a guy up here in Wisconsin that had brought it here from California. He only used it in the summer to pull his boat so it was very solid, but did have a small area of rust behind the door from what looks like a botched collision repair. It had great potential so I picked it up. Anyway, here's the start of the build.

Here's how she looked when I brought it home. First thing after driving off the trailer was to ditch the top. The '87 up by the house has since graciously donated it's perfect black Silverado interior, wiring harnes, and misc. other components.

The next thing after that was to install a 4" lift with new springs all around as the prior owner had trimmed the front fenders and added a 2" block to the rear to clear the 33's. I also added a lund visor and a razorback to not only hide the hardtop mounting holes, but help direct the wind off my two boys when they road in the back.

Then I did just a little more cleanup and painting and ran her like this for the first summer.

Come winter, I started the teardown to redo. 350 came out and was sold, front clip was removed (since they were cut prior, I didn't want to reuse), I swapped the six bolts out for a D44/14BFF out of a '77 burb 3/4 ton, and did a taigate conversion to loose the heavy stock one since I was never going to put the top on again.

Then I went about putting in a new body mount bushing kit, painting up the firewall and dropping in the fresh 383.

This winter has been more or less little tinkering with it since I have dedicated a lot of time to my wheeling rig (Cherokee). I have collected up almost all my parts now, finished tearing out the interior, just lacking the cowl hood and the last few brake components to finish the disc conversion in the rear. I even snagged a set of tires and rims back in January. Been looking at the DCII's, but came across these on craigslist and couldn't pass them up. Had them before on a rig of mine and loved the old school look. Just need to clean them up and polish up the lip and fin edges.

Paint (charcoal metalic with black accents) is in the shop and ready to spray the interior, just need to get back at it.

Anyway, figured I'd throw my buildup out there to you guys since I have benefited from a lot of input in here and wanted to show you some of what it's gone to.

awesome keep up the pics ...could you throw one of the jeep in to since i have one two for my beater per say ...keep my k5 nice :D

i like it ...are you going to use the k5 blazer for a weekend warrior or ....????

Weekend cruiser for the summer and also for trailering the Cherokee to local runs. I used to wheel K5's, but after picking up this clean one, I decide to baby one instead. It had a turbo 400 in it when I picked it up and I had the 383 in the shop for another project. Figured with that motor/tranny combo, I'd set it up with 3/4 running gear and make it a fun little tow rig. Granted, it doesn't have the wheel base like my crew cab, but it will still get the job done.....just with more style!

nice build. I have a similar build going. Keep the updates coming

The XJ looks good too. I've been thinking of getting one to replace my K5 when it is sold. The wife likes 4x4s, but she also likes her comforts.

rjpastor i wouldnt get rid of a k5 for a jeep ....it wouldnt be justified....trust me i have both

I definitely like wheeling the Jeep, but it's a different style of wheeling. I use finess more on obstacles now than just rely on horsepower, big tires, and ground clearance......it was that darn heavy right foot that put an end to my prior Jimmy's wheeling days!

Figured I'd load up some new picts. Sat for most of the summer but I was collecting parts. Ended up snagging a '91 Suburban from a co-worker that he was just goint to take to the scrap yard. Doors were perfect so I used them in place of the originals as the previous owner had cut holes on the inside to fit in 6 x 9 speakers. I also snagged the new style front clip and picked up my cowl hood. Still have to do some alignment, bu the plan is to paint the door jams and interior pieces over Christmas break (off for a week!!) and then start reinstalling the interior I began pulling from the old C10.

Thats great you are making this one nice. I too have trashed my K5 and am very jealous of the clean ones driving around town. keep it going.

looks real good......i like the clip too. when i had my '75 and '76 i didn't like the square nosed trucks, but now i do. that nose is pretty mean lookin...... that's a goodly weight to tow with a lifted K5 too, really watch your tongue weight..

can't wait to see it painted.

Nice setup. I like it and will follow your progress. Have you ever checked out http://www.wi4x4.com/forum/

Thanks. As far as that site, I don't believe I've been on it before. Just got on there, though, and logged on and am waiting for my acct. to be set up so as to check it out. You involved with any of the 4wheel clubs up here at all? What part of WI are you from......LaCrosse area for me.

I see you became a member of WI4X4.com. I live in central Wisconsin just off Highway 64 between Merrill and Medford.

Sorry to jump off topic; here's my '01 XJ.

Had this ab a year, and sold it. Bought it bone stock w 25K miles, added the RE long arm kit, and sold it before I even had a chance to wheel it :doah:
