I have found a problem with my ac system, noticed after I installed a new condenser and charged the ac that the blower was not pushing cool air to the driver's side of the truck. Started looking around and I found a big hole on the back of the box under the glove box where the, for lack of remembering the correct word, 'the chiller' is at. I can see the entire chiller from the floorboard. Is there a fix or do I need to fabricate something to cover this? Has anyone ran into something like this? If I can get away from the kids, then I will get out to the truck and take a pic and upload it asap so you guys can see what a half ass job was done on this truck before I got it. I know I got it for a steal, but damn, I guess I should have looked past the rims and tires! Let me know, thank you

That would be your heater core you are seeing there. But, in this case you will either need to fabricate a cover for it to properly direct the airflow or get a replacement box from the local junk yard.

Around here the boxes are a dime a dozen at the junk yards so in my location I would just get a new box and swap it. Depends on availability in your area.

Oh, and since you have access to it change that heater core before It causes you grief ;-)

Cheers,
Rufus

I am in the process of that now. Making a cover. I did see that the previous hack changed the heater gear as well as the ac gear

passenger compartment hvac housing - swap with what?

Hate to dig up an old thread, but I am revisiting this issue with a renewed interest. I am looking to help the factory front a/c system as much as I can, also to replace the inside hvac housing from when the po hacked it apart to replace the heater core. What years are interchangeable with mine? 89 gmc v1500 suburban? Are they all the same or is one different from the other? Also wondering if there is an aftermarket sheetmetal replacement out there?

Thanks
