My brake indicator in the dash stays on even when the parking brake is released. you can see it get brighter when i push the parking brake pedal down, and then it goes slighty dimmer when i release the cable. i just replaced all my dash bulbs and am wondering if this bulb was previously burned out and now is functioning properly. brake fluid level is fine. brakes work just fine. just wanted to see if anyone has/had a similar problem.

The red brake warning light comes on when the hydraulic system encounters a problem. It can be a leak, malfunctioning MC, or a combo valve that was never reset and now that you changed the bulb it's on. Check the system to make sure there are no leaks. verify that all four brakes are working. If the valve wont reset and everything is gtg might be a faulty valve or short. Time to finger it out

Yeah you have a problem in your brakes, and the bias is triggering the light, the good news is once you know what the problem is, your brakes will be even better.

figured it out

fixed it last week. the brakes worked fine. but i found a gm service manual and diagnosed it. the ABS module was throwing a code. $75 later and a new module, the light is out and all is well. rear abs is working again.
