Ok.... here's the scoop.

I'm building kind of an odd-ball doubler setup - but either way the front case is pretty conventional.

It's a 241 .... that I got in a box, disassebled.

The Doubler omits most of the hocus pocus inside the case.... but I still need the planetaries to work right.

Here's my question.... what is supposed to hold the planet carrier in place so that it doesn't slide back?

Right now, it shifts from hi to low... but if you aim the case w/ it's nose up, like going up a steep incline.... the planet carrier slips back toward the back of the case! I am missing something that holds it in it's fully engaged position.

I see there is a feature for a snap ring... or something where the sun gear is installed into the case. Something go in there that keeps the planet carrier in its place?

Any help would be appreciated from someone who has built a 241 range box!

Thanks!

There should be a snap ring and a couple thrust washers on the front of the planet case, that holds the input gear to the planet set. Then the input gear is held into the case by a snap ring and the bearing retainer.

If your planets fall out, you're missing the snap ring (and maybe thrust washers) on the front of the planet set.

Thanks Chris....!

I am definitely missing the Thrust washers.

I know there is a snap ring holding the "input gear" in....

but there is no snap ring capturing the Planet carrier, right?

Thanks for your help!

There is no snap ring on the back side of the planet carrier. Just a snap ring at the front that attaches the input gear to the planet case, then the input is held to the aluminum housing with a snap ring and bearing retainer.
