Hello all, I'm going to buy another k5 (my third) and i've finally got it down to two. Which one would you all buy? A 1991 350 tbi/700r/208. its a former idaho power truck. 147,000 miles but maintain constanly. the other is a 86 350/700r/208, miles unknown. tranny rebuilt edelbrock performer carb and intake. Both are about the same price in very good condition with no rust dents and interiors are cherry.
I'd be crazy not to buy the 91 right? any imput would be great

I would say go with the 91. It already has fuel injection albeit TBI, already has the updated grill and lights, plus serpentine belt system. Maybe not a big deal but just my .02.

The 1991 K-5 should have a 241 not a 208 . In my opinion they are both descent cases but I prefer the 241 . Basically what will break one will break the other . A 1991 K-5 is way cool with the TBI . drive them both and let that be the deciding factor . The 1986 K-5 is probably the 305 Q-jet model and they are not exactly power houses. If all is equal between them both I would suggest the 91 model .

HTH , Tom

THE 86 is suppost to have the 350, but smokes on start up. The 91 seems to run just great but greazy looking trany & t-case. I really like the fuel injection.....

Buy the 91 . Greasy is normal . You clean it and withing a year its greasy again , the slip yoke spits a little fluid , no matter how many times you replace it . Buy it and enjoy it :D

thanks boys,

Tax return should be here by the end of the week, so Saturday I may be wheelin again!! oh god that sounds nice. Spring time wheelin in Idaho is a blast!:D

remember it was a fleat truck so the low miles onthe 91 might seem nice but it was probable never shut off.

all fleat truck around here ( phone gas cable ect.) never get shut off they just idle at service call all day, asked they guys why and it was because if it dident start they would be late on calls, so they leave it on :screwy::screwy:

i wouldent personaly buy a fleat truck unless it was for parts or a builder of some sort.

i would go 86 like carbs better.

True , but it can be driven a while longer , hopefully while still being able to get a good rebuild out of the motor . I prefer heat cycled engine blocks from cars , but to get all the rest of the truck sounds good , I mean it has everything everybody wants I.E 89-91 front , and fuel injection . I myself don't like the newer frontend as its overdone on Ck5 , but his deal sounds good for him :k5: :k5:

There is no way this was a service truck. It has full interior cloth seats (no wear at all). I'm thinking supervisor or command truck of some kind. You may be right about the ideling. But I figure for 2500.00 bucks if the motor last a year or so I've got my money out of it. And in goes a crate motor. Any tricks for removing the old pealing clear coat on hood and roof?

I vote '91, sounds like a screamin' deal with 147k miles for $2500, wish I lived in ID, I'd pick it up tomorrow.
