I think they made the '88-'98 frames wider so they could mount the gas tank between the framerails instead of on the outside of them (saddlebags).
One problem I've ran into is finding a hitch that will work with the ORD shackle flip I have on my truck. So far the only ones I've seen won't fit unless you grind off some of the hitch or some of the flip bracket. No big deal, just an aggravation. I've tried asking around on this forum about whether anyone knew where I could get one that would work with the flip and no grinding, but no one did. There was a thread about it somewhere...
