Both blowers and turbos are good for top end HP but for a truck neither is really good, torque down low is what you want and you wont get that from a blower or turbo. I'm not saying that they don't make power at lower RPM's but not in the low range we need it.

i hear ya on that, my 86 pulls itself down the trail perfectly fine with the 4speed manual and the 456 gears, im more concerned as to making my 6000 pound brick able to pass mini vans on the interstate.

i have all new parts on the motor so i really dont want to swap heads and cams and stuff and thats why i was looking at the blower, instant power boost, more than heads and cams for the money.

so a little extra on the trail is nice but this is more for the DD side, and instant power on the highway without smashing a big hole in my wallet.

You do realize that blowers and turbos require a special piston IF you don't want to blow a hole through the top? Pistons for such an application are made of a different blend of material, thicker heads, and the 1st ring is lower down the piston to help prevent exploding the top ring. :deal:

well my motor specs are 76, 350 4 bolt main bored 30 over, flat top pistons, stock heads, comp cams extreme 4x4 cam, edelbrock performer intake, holley truck advenger, stock HEI with accel super wires. MSD off road box.

Now i was told the weiland 177 blower would not destoy my motor so thats why i was leaning more toward them. not the big boys.

You really need to know what your static compression ratio is. I had a friend who installed a B&M 177 blower on his 350 that was running 9.2 CR and he grenaded the engine in quick order. I took the engine apart myself (well what was left of it anyways) and it ripped the front 3 main bearing webs from the block and busted the cam in 4 pieces. In order to run a blower without having big time troubles you need to be under 8:1 CR.

I used to have a blown 468 chevy with 8:1 CR and when you put 16lbs boost that makes the CR 18:1

There are a bunch of variables that you need to know, what CC combustion chamber cylinder head, what CC head gasket, what CC piston, and the deck height.

all i know is the pistons are flat tops and the heads are stock from the 76 block, and the gaskets are felpro

Depending on the casting# thos heads can be holding your combination back a good bit. Remember your engines an air pump and only flows as much as the smallest restriction you have. A set of heads like Vortec (requires manifold) or dart iron eagles on the low side. up to AFR 195 street heads on the high side could possibly net you more power and higher mpg due to better combustion chamber than a power adder. I have seen the Vortec heads for as low as 500 a set makeing them still competitive even with intake purchase. and the AFRs run around 1500 ish.

Even if you decide to supercharge later the power gains are synergistic from better flowing heads and a supercharger. because its all about flow and not the actual psi the blowers reading at.

Where did you come up with weiland from? I've been waiting for the correct Weiand (say why-and) ya know like the t-shirts have on em.
Just a little ball busting my friend.....listen to Scott here, blower motors are more than just a bolt on power maker. Just like a good kick of nitrous, you better be sure your sh!t is right before you even think about it.

sell your current motor and swap in a low mile 6.0

Add some goodies with your use in mind.. and go.
