1978 C10 "was" Diesel. Can the front end be upgrade from a 5 to and 8 lug 1 ton? If so what is needed? Thank you

all if it is much bigger . so in the easy few hr time frame of a job nope . but can it be done yes . also the frame from a 1/2 ton to 1ton is bigger / thicker / taller in the mid to rear section .

There are differences at the knuckle, different ball joints. I swapped an 85 to 8 lug a couple years back. You need to change the upper and lower arms to use the 8 lug knuckle. Mounting holes at the frame are the same. I swapped in a 14b FF for the rear, it just bolts in.

You could probably bolt in the entire front crossmember & suspension from a 1 ton onto a 1/2 ton frame..that would be the fastest & easiest way..
It has been years since I looked up parts for 2wd trucks ,but I believe the ball joints have larger outer diameter, different taper and the knuckles are different than a 1/2 ton..so while you could swap A frames and knuckles its almost as much work as rolling a whole front crossmember under the truck..
