Cab lights on a k5?

i also installed some red ones in the back of the truck above the doors..............so i added those rear lights, one on each side corner, 3 in the middle, like a truck would have them. it made it more visable.

So did you put these on the tailgate, or across the top of the window? I was thinking about putting clearance lights on Big Red, but I have a spoiler on top that would possibly get in the way if I mounted lights up that far. But I dont know if it would look good to have them on the tailgate either:dunno:

My plan is to run five small ones on top of the windshield, run three large ones down each side on the running boards, and three large across the back to help the taillights. My three across the back will be wired in with turn/brake lights as well.

I have barn doors with no air foil, i did drill holes obviously for the wires, and mounting screws, everything sealed up with the rubber gasket that comes with the light assemblies.

Was gettin dark, so kind of a perfect time to take a few more pics :D

this is the rear....

this is the front with the amber lights mounted under the lip of my lightbar, also i have one amber light mounted midway up on the fender, probably about where any fender emblems would be located, i mounted it in the pinstrip line. Just more lighting to give a different look :D

That looks nice, but I think my spoiler will cover up the top lights. I could mount the lights to the spoiler, but it wouldnt look nearly as clean since the wires would be hanging off the back. Or I could take the spoiler off. Not it does me any good anyways. Then I could reuse the mounting holes so I dont have to cover them up.

definitely doing this. i like how that looks. but i might do them with even spacing.

I did them in this position, to imitate DOT regulations on big rigs, big trucks are required the 3 in the center like this, the outer ones i can't remember if they are required or not, as long as there are forward facing marker lights and rear facing taillights. The 3 centers are to signal hat it IS a big truck, i believe wider than standard vehicle and height as well. Can't remember the exact terminology for it. It's what the big trucks have, and require :D

I kept getting told about the size of the truck, plus being a truck driver, i just like lights :D

And it really enhanced the visability of the truck from behind at a distance, can see it alot better when coming up from behind it.

I dont mean to hijack this thread, but can I have some better pics of your lightbar 4x? Is it a group of flood/offorad lights or a standard flashing/strobe/rotating lightbar? I'm just curious...........

It's an old "Trailblazer" lightbar, i believe they went out of business several years ago, they were pretty pricey when they came out if i remember right. I found this one locally on Ebay several years back.

They are all stationary lights, 10 forward facing, 5 rear and one on each side for side light.

I replaced 6 of the center bulbs from 55 watt to 100 watt bulbs, the whole lightbar originallyt came with 55 watt bulbs,,, i wanted more :D

Including the two 130 watt lights on the front bumper it's running 1080 watts when all forward facing lights are on. It kills the battery within about 10 minutes while the motor is running, definately need another battery and another alternator :D :doah:

Plus, originally they had them wired up with very limited switching capability, i rewired the whole assembly to allow for 3 different sets of lights forward, one switch for each side, and 2 for the rear.

You'll regret it, it keeps your back windows clean.

Martin
never had one on mine, but then again, i tinted over the factory tint to make them even darker to hide what was inside :D so i really don't/can't use my back windows anyways. Always use my mirrors...

And even still when they do get dirty, i'm sitting so far forward in the truck from the windows, you really don't realize they are as dirty as they are, until you clean them :doah:

Same here. I use the center rearview mirror to see what the kids are doing, that's it. And I have 2.5% tint on the rear. I could care less about the window being dirty :haha:

I'll look into some lo-pro LED's. Plus I have the tailgate and there is a trim piece inside what would be the door frame if it had barn doors. It's metal, so in theory I should be able to drill/mount the lights on that. We'll see inthe next few weeks............

If you install cab lights, then they will be required to work to get a Texas inspection sticker. I found this out when I had my 1 ton inspected. I never pay any attention to the cab lights, but was failed on lights when I had it inspected. If the lights are there, they have to work.
