Ok, earlier today I crawling around under my 86 K5 trying to get my old, loose muffler off, (which I had no success at) I found a black (cable?, line?) that looked like a hollow coax cable, hanging down near the transfer case, and after some searching I found a hold in the NP208 that it goes into to, near the front driveshaft.

4wd works beatifully, and there are no funny noises or smells.

Any Ideas?
(I would have a picture but my camera has gone AWOL)

EDIT: sorry, I was wrong. it goes into the ouput shaft for the rear driveshaft.

EDIT: #2 holy **** am I a dumbass, I just realized why my speedo only worked when it wanted to.

That was my dumbass moment of the day, and now I have another question, How do I go about getting the old muffler off? I got the exhaust clamp off of from where the piece between the cat and and the muffler, and the anti-wiggle clamp at the back. Then between 300 LBs of me and a rubber mallet got me nowhere. It is in great shape, it is just far too quiet for me.

Bust out the sawzall and that will remove the muffler and make it loud all at the same time. :thumb:

With regular exhaust clamps its a tight fit inside exhaust pieces and it squishes them together and it usually rusts together at that spot. Easiest way is to chop it with a sawsall. Then use what's left to build your new exhaust.

Well, I guess I'm going to drag out the sawzall, but I plan on using some of what is left to run it out the side infront of the rear wheel, but I'm about a good of a welder as a fish, so any other ideas for that?

If you bought the same diameter tube for the new exhaust pieces, they usually have one side that slips over your stock pipe or you will have to get a piece from the part store to slip into the old pipe first and continue with the rest if the exhaust and reclamp it down after you get it ran the way you want. I pretty much do that with every vehicle I've had with junk exhaust on it. They have 45 and 90 degree bent pieces as well as strait pieces you can use to get it where you want it.

Just had an idea, ratchet strap the muffler, and hook it to the axle, and just pull it off.
