My boss has a set 4 sale, already ported for $625....They are 1964 vintage.

I do not know if that is the usual going rate for them.... /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

No they aren't better than Vortecs.

There is a lot of variation in those heads from what I remember, from valve size to chamber size, so it would be impossible to say all of them are good or bad.

However, compared to the Vortecs, they don't have good chambers, and the intake runners aren't nearly as good.

They are good OLD technology factory heads, but thats it. Something along the lines of World or AFR are going to beat the camel humps hands down, and sometimes end up being a better idea than even the Vortecs.

I've got a set of "461" double hump heads on my 69 camaro. Back in 1989, I rebuilt the 327, and bought these heads from the speed shop that did my machining work. They were done up for a circle track racer that never picked them up, they were off of an early sixties vette motor, had bigger valves, and were drilled for angled spark plugs. I paid about 500 bucks for them, and as has been said before, they were state of the art at one time. When I rebuild the motor again, I'll use the vortecs if I can, or get a set from world products. If you've got money to spend on heads, don't waste time on the vintage crap, get something that moves some air, and buy a cam that suits both the head and what you plan to do with the vehicle.

I saw a set in the paper sunday, were going for $250. 10yrs ago when I bought a set it cost me $1000 before I got them machined. Now-a-days they are going between $200-600 around here all day long.

I've got 2 pairs hanging on my garage wall for decoration. Probably still be there when I die. Thier not worth messing with anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
