A digital camera that can be used daily but that can also mount to a telescope, an exposure time that can go up to a couple of hours, put her own filters in, shutter release cable and no delay for action type shots.

Plus prolly a whole bunch of other things but that's enough to getting on with.

The Canon is a very nice camera. Look at the Nikon D's also. You are looking at at least $500 for a camera body. Either Canon or Nikon will have mounts and adapters to mount to telescopes, but none of it is cheap.

Oh I know. It's more for Jenn to be on the lookout. Knowin which lookout to look off of and for is what this thread is mostly intended for.

    If that makes any sense.

i use a cannon 20D - the body will run about a grand, but can be had used for a fair price because the 30D came out, which is pretty much the same as the 20D. We've got a tamron 18-200 lens that is really good for all-around shots, basically does everything well, but nothing excellent. that lens is about 400. that'll getchya started pretty good. it's got so many features that even after a year of regular use, we're still noobs - so we haven't needed any more add-on's yet, tho i'd like to get a good lens for close ups (i mean CLOSE, like legs on a spider kind of close).

Either the Nikon D's or the Cannon's. I would stay away from everything else because those have by far the most lens and accessory choices and support. Its pretty hard to go wrong with either.
