I am trying to put my carrier back in the way it came out. It has 3 shims each side and i can't get it back in perfectly square. I can get close and it seems close enough that it would be fine. But i am not sure how perfect the shims have to be? Will the cap being tightened down help? I am talkinh an 1/8 inch out of perfect at most on one side. the other side sits really well. when i pull it to get it better then the other side sits perfect and the other is out etc.

thanks for quick help

Some pictures might help, but an 1/8" in a differential is a bunch. The carrier should fit pretty tight. What axle are we talking about?

I got her figured out. I just had to get a little rough with it... Ok not really rough. It was a dana 44 carrier. the shims were outside the races in between the carrier and the housing. So when the carrier came out the shims came separate. So putting it back in I had a hell of a time getting the shims back in with the carrier. I would get onside squared up to the race and the other was out. I now have it reinstalled with what I feel is acceptable... I just had to try harder hold my mouth right, say a little prayer to the gods, rub my licky rabbits foot, etc...
