I fell silly asking this...

On my DD, (2001 Chevy 4.6 V6) The check engine oil light keeps coming on every time I start up. I changed my oil about 2,000 miles ago. I'm not running low or have too much and the color is just fine. Is this light programmed from the dealership to come one to remind the previous owner to change thier oil if they weren't smart enough to keep track of it? Can it be turned off with a programmer?

Well /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

Does it stay on or just for a few seconds after start-up?

Turn the key to RUN but do not start the truck, Then push the gas pedal to the floor either 3 or five times (I can't remember which) Then turn the key off and then start the truck.

My Avy does the same thing. It is the Oil Life Monitor

Just do what readymix said, press it 3 times and make sure you go all the way to the floor or it wont work. The light will blink at you 5 times, then shut the key off and cycle to key and start the truck, it will blink at you 5 more times and it is now reset. For oil changes I would go by the oil life indicator light, GM put it there for a reason.

Thanks guys, worked like a charm /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
