The only chrome I have is the K&N air filter cover that came with the filter. It rusted some due to wheeling and not constantly cleaning it. That's also the reason it's the only chrome thing I have on my rig. I much prefer painted components. They don't look so bad when dirty, and when they get scraped or whatever you can just repaint them. If you can't tell, I really don't like chrome.
Mud is just thick water, or is it that water is just thin mud?
I like chrome in the engine compartment. I've got chrome valve covers and the K&N filter. The headers are ceramic coated which look almost chrome, and the hoses have the "dress-up kit" that makes them look like steel-braided. I painted the accesory brackets, water pump and power steering pump with aluminum-gray paint. I also spent many many hours cleaning the block, which I then painted to its original turqouise.
When it was dirty and disgusting, I didn't want to work in it. Now that's neat I'm not afraid of getting all dirty. It's also easier to find any oil leak.
When I take the motor out for a rebuild, I'll have the whole engine compartment painted with a glossy look, and have everything I can chromed. I haven't seen a chromed master cylinder cover. I've only seen them painted. I've also seen chormed brake fluid caps.
In my opinion, the neater you have your engine compartment, the cleaner you will keep it. It's like having chrome wheels or a nice paint job. The better they are, the cleaner you will keep them.

What the heck!...Drive it like gas is $0.50/gal!!!</font color=black>
Only my airfilter cover is chrome. Oh yeah, and the center caps of my rear wheels are chrome too. Oh, and my front bumper. But that's it. Rather spend my money on toughing up my rig. But, I must admit, Chrome looks good.
