ck5 2012 eureka alaska trip dates

Is there a way to drive from Washington to Eureka without skirting through Canada? I always thought there was but a friend says no. I could look at a map and I will but I am going to be lazy and just ask. :)

Ahhhh, ferry from Bellingham and up. Oh well, I guess I will have to drive through Canada The ferry is pretty expensive and longer, travel time-wise.

I drove up to Anchorage this past summer and the fuel prices we not that bad. The most we paid for gas was 5.50 or so. The gas stations had around 75 miles between them. The only part of the alcan highway that is really bad is the last 150 miles or so before the Alaska border, between destruction bay and beaver creek.

In summer the Ferry will take you to Whittier, about 2hrs south of Wasilla but if you have a towrig and trailer its expensive as hell

well now I know I will not make it this year either, we will be taking a month and a half trip to the middle east in january february so I doubt we'll have any money left for another trip same year.
But as long as you do this every year and this country is not in the ****ter yet, next year I will make it.:dunno:

Well your more then welcome! maybe you could bring your big truck and a drop deck and split the fuel cost between 2-3 guys

That was one thought in the beginning but then I reliazed I don't want to cross borders with my Commercial truck, and as far as this year it's not happening no matter how much cost savings I could have, I need the work during that time to replenish, summer is our busiest season and where I make my money.
This year I was making 15k in august, 12k in July.:dunno:

My truck has a 26 gallon actual fuel capacity (rated at 30 gallons), which means I'd need another 50 gallons to have enough for 300 miles at 4 mpg.

Where do you guys stash 10 gas cans for the trip along with the rest of your gear?

Wherever we can. We're usually loaded very heavy going in.

We figured my XJ had about 1500 lbs on it.

The gas rigs get 4mpg Average , the diesel burb that went a few yrs ago did better then 10mpg offroad

That being said I will be bringing a 30 gallon jug and possibly 6 5-gallon military jerry cans of and my burb has a 40 gallon tank

So, roof rack is a definite then with 5 people in my truck. I'm gonna have to get one of those big plastic carriers to go on top of a bunch of metal gas cans.

How much water do you guys normally carry? 20 gallons?

I'd say don't pee upstream from where you camp.

I am going to be co-driving King of the Hammers in a Stock Modified class in February instead though!

Just a thought, saw these before on northern tool. Might be a nice way to have a single container,or two, just line them up in a row. Then run the hose out the tailgate when you need to fill
