Im rebuilding my 14 bolt rearend. Its got a lot of old grease, and oil in it. My buddy said to fill the hogs head with Kerosene. He said that it would clean the grease out without adding any water to rust the interior. Is this true? If not, what should i use.
thanks

I used one of those cheap cotton dusting wands to clean out the axle tubes with solvent. Dip it in solvent, shove it down the axle tubes a bunch of times, rinse and repeat. After they are fairly clean, finish up with brake cleaner.

Kerosene or Diesel works great.

when i repack the hubs, i didnt feel like being there for 3 hours with 10 cans of cleaner.
i tossed them in a bucket and filled it with Diesel.

2 days later, all the grease was at the bottom of the bucket.

You need one of those twin 55 gallon parts washers that I've seen on here at some point. Awesome! One picture even had a 14 bolt in it if I remember correctly. Sweet!

soak it in diesel, scrape off what you can, whats is left use oven cleaner, let it sit for about 30 min, hose it off.

i used some engine degreaser and a pressure washer on mine with no ill affects or rust. just blew it out and set it in the sun to dry.

engine degreaser

I had a major realization the other day when i was using engine degreaser to clean off my frame.

It all started when i was working on a ranch and all we used to "degrease" was Diesel.

Flash foreward to the day in ?, i sprayed a new can onto the frame. when it is in liquid form, not too foamy it is pinkish red in color. it dawned on me---------engine degreaser IS diesel, probably just watered down. go get a thik type spray bottle and fill it with the pink stuff for a lot cheaper.

you mean this one :D its my parts washer i built, and yes i have showed it off several times before. i finally ordered 20 gallons of solvent, 250.00 worth! my tank holds more then that. i am very proud of this i must say, its about the only project i have actually finished.
