I'm doing a radiator swap next weekend and would like to do some road testing. @bent72 is ready to do some testing as well.

Planning hit Pickle Gulch on Saturday 7/29. We'll meet at the park and ride oon the northwest corner of Hwy 52 and I25. 9AM.

Depending on how the day goes maybe we can check out a couple other trails in the area.

In theory it's possible. But I learned a long time ago projects take way longer than expected. And that when people post on the Internet "it only took me an hour" they are full of shit.

I'm definitely being overly optimistic. With wifey constantly running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, she wouldn't leave me alone long enough to open the hood on the truck...

Maybe we can talk @shima into hurrying up addressing his slight brake fluid leak and he can pop his cherry on this run...

I'll do my best! Hopefully it is a straightforward fix.

We can also set a second meeting place near the trail if it makes sense for some of the people coming from the Denver area. To be honest I picked 52 & I25 to avoid driving thru Denver.

I washed the underside of my truck last night, then got all the paint / dirt / grime off of the offending caliper. It cleaned up really well. I took the truck for a drive after that, and then once I got home had my roommate help me out by pushing down on the brake pedal as hard as he could while I watched the caliper. No brake fluid that I could see, so I'm hoping that the leak was addressed by the previous owner (and he just happened to leave the caliper looking awful). I'm going to check it again when I get home... I had my phone flashlight last night but it'd be nice to see it in daylight.

This trail is up above Central City, above the once mining town of Apex

Mrk5 said this once was the motel

Just 3 vehicles, Mr and Mrsk5 and their 2 boys, my wife and I, and my BIL and his youngest (in the black Jeep)

So the trail is service road half way up , passing partial remnants of 2 old mine buildings. There it splits of into two forest roads, becoming progressively narrower as it wanders back, eventually squeezing down to SxS or narrower.

On the last downward section before the old mine, the bent77 stopped running. Kaput.

I tried guiding downhill, but the section we were in was steep downhill, with a lot of sharp switch backs. Ended up not being able to steer and done a little tree crashing. @mrk5 cabled me back so we could straighten the truck and from there coasted down to a flat spot.

There we messed with it trying to get it to start, no spray at the injectors. Battery was getting tired from cranking, so we all ate lunch while Mrk5 charged my truck.

After lunch, Mrk5 meandered further down hill to see if we could come out going down instead of going back up. In the process, the trail narrowed enough the quarter windows in both back doors of the Angry Duck got broken.

After he returned, we determined no fuel pressure at the injection, but the ignition was working. So we rerouted the auxiliary fuel line to the injection to bypass the fuel pump relay. That allowed us to get it started and turn around

All in all pretty fun. A little drizzly, but nice and cool. And everyone made it home
