I have a full PSC assist system now on my K5. Can I just replace my steering box with a orbital, and have full hydro. How much more to it is there? My ram is 1.5x8x1

thanks:confused:

There is more to it than that.

The full hydraulic rams are typically much bigger, 2.5" bore double ended (meaning they displace the same amount of fluid in either direction).

A 1.5" bore ram, especially a single ended one, is going to suck with full hydro. If you need full hydro, it's too small. Plus if it's single ended (i.e. if there is a rod coming out of only one side of the cylinder) you will end up with significantly more turns to one side than the other.

But, to answer your question, yes we can get you a steering valve to work best with your system.

What power steering pump are you using? What size tire under what vehicle? How do you use it?

Well after that then prob not. If you remember you helped me a few days ago with my steering box issue (broken ear). Today I was thinking instead of spending the $ on a new box maybe I could just buy a orbital and call it good. But I guess not, I kinda figured that. I have a modded PSC pump on my LT1 motor. I have 42s and now days it sees pretty big rocks, and is constantly twisted up. PSC want's $75 plus shipping to put my guts into a new box, so maybe $150.

I do remember that, I would probably get PSC to swap the guts and make sure that the new box sits flush against the frame. With the steering box brace on there you may not have issues anymore.

I've had a 1.5" ram on mine for ~5 years and I've had no issues, also running 42's.
