Third down.

Does anyone have a set of these? They have been out for about a year now. Supposed to be a all-terrain with winter tire characteristics yet still available in LT ratings and able to be driven on all year long. Only 5000 less miles in their treadwear guarantee compared to their AT/3. I drive 45 miles each way to work three or four days a week all year long so I was thinking these would be a good compromise tire.

If they're anything like the Zeon LTZ I'd go for it. I had a set on the Tahoe, got over 50K miles out of them and they worked well in the snow. Wish I would have bought another set instead of these BFG's that are falling apart.

I'm running mastercraft coursers, which is Coopers fleet tire similar to the Discoverer AT3. 33K miles and they're barely showing any wear on my 2500 Ram. I like Cooper tires. They're the only thing I use besides BFG. I have noticed the Coursers hold onto gravel more than the BFG ATs.

I think the modern ATs provide plenty of winter traction, almost to the point of snow tires being unnecessary. The BFG AT was the first tire to pass the govt's new M&S rating years ago and it's still the highest rated.

I used to think this. But last winter I bought a set of Goodyear UltraGrip snow tires for my tiny car, and the difference was quite significant. It will run loops around my truck (Cooper Discover AT3). Handling and stopping distance got quite a bit happier. At low temperatures, the car will out-perform the truck in any category of driving until it runs out of ground clearance.

The AT3 is a fine tire. But don't underestimate the value of having soft rubber when the mercury drops. Hard tires just don't grip when it's cold.

YMMV (of course :)).

After doing a little bit of reading up on the AT/W tires, they look like a good tire. I, too, would be interested in hearing from anyone who has used them for all-season use. Looks like a nicer compromise than the AT3 tires. Funny, when the AT3 tires came out, they looked like a nicer compromise than the ATR tires that they replaced. I wonder if next year's tire will be nicer yet. :dunno:

One can hope.

Where was this tire when I lived in Traverse City, Michigan for six years?
