cost to bore out a 350

my friend has been continuously trying to talk me out of building a 383
i blew a connecting rod last week and this is what i would like to do
the eagle kits seem to be coming down in price
my friend tells me that to bore the 350 4bolt main 30 over will cost a fortune to be done at a machine shop

what should i expect to pay to get this done? shops are closed right now and i cant call around, and i figure you guys would have a better idea anyway, i like a little info when getting work done

Just a bore job isnt too bad. I would say 10-20 a hole depending on your machine shop. What costs money is line boring the block, decking the block, and all that other stuff you "should do" while you are doing it.

hmm, well, lets put it this way...

my grandfather always taught me that you should never buy the cheapest thing, you will get what you pay for, and dont buy the most expensive, cuz you will be dissapointed

lets say, full bore job on a 350 4bolt main

plus

waht i should get done, but nothing over the top

this block has about 30 - 40 thou on it, its in great shape

would you guys be able to tell me what i really should do, and what it would cost?

its 8 bucks a hole at my local napa w/ a sunnen machine and torque plate, cross hatch honed perfect=$64 a block + tax
 
I can't help with pricing in your neck of the woods but here in California where everything is expensive i charge $225.00 to bore and hone a V/8 block. If you want deck plates then add another $85.00. You will need to clearance the block for the longer stroke and you will also need to grind on the inside rod bolt area of the rods if you're using stock rods so that the rod bolts clear the cam lobes on 2 of the cylinders (should do all 8 rods to keep the balance proper) and the engine MUST be rebalanced and you will need a SBC 400 flexplate and harmonic damper.
 
And don't forget to cook the block. Unless you bring it in spotlessly clean the shop will cook it and charge you for it. You should cook it out to get rid of any grit left over from the boring and honing. That stuff gets into every nook and cranny in the block.

You can get some screaming deals on complete engines. Then you dont have to run all over hells creation looking for machine shops and waiting on there back log. You get known new parts you get the satifaction that it was put together by someone that knows how and most time right. You just pop it in. If it was a stock rebuild then stay with what you got but you already wanting more. You can rering a 350 and hone it out to get a good surface to seat rings right in your back yard.
 
Where I'm at it's $75 to bore one without plates and $185 with the torque plates.
