Crew cab. Use it or lose it.

It is very slowly being resurrected.

I should have had it done months ago but its been difficult to find time to make good progress.

Little run down on what's going on:

It began life as a 2 wheeler with a 6.2 diesel. The Rockers were completely hammered. I finally quit driving it when my wife shut the pass. door and about 3 lbs of rusty steel fell on the ground. The rust went much deeper than I knew. The B pillar on the pass side was ready to fall off on the bottom. :doah: Drivers side was better but not much. I'm blaming the running boards that the PO had on there for the rust problems. Well they have been fixed with the tube rocker replacement. Not for ground clearance but just cause I wanted to try it and I hated the idea of putting in replacements to watch them start rusting again from the inside out. The doors had to be trimmed off. 3/4" to be exact. Found a nice pile of bondo that made up one of the door corners so that was also replaced with steel. The box was removed and I'm not sure I'f I'll repair it or try to find another. Some rear fender rust but alot of damage on the floor. PO also had a rubber matte in the back. :doah:

It is of course being converted to 4 wheel drive, dually. Sticking a 465/205 and Dana 60 in there. Floor hump is welded in. My floor hump was too short (from and earlier year) so that had to be stretched to fill the hole.

It is also getting a 6" lift and a set of 36" tires. Unfortunately I'm having some trouble finding 16.5" dually rims!! hint hint!!

Why 16.5" you ask? well, don't ask! :haha: It's all part of the plan!!

There was a brand new '89 crew cab cab section in a crate from GM a month or 2 ago on ebay. I think the guy wanted $2500 for it. New GM door shells were installed too, front and back. I wanted to get it, but I have enough projects.
Looks good!

I don't spend much time at all on ebay anymore. Use to be a good place to find deals on things. I think that is rare anymore. Some of thier policies are a little wacked too. This is getting a little off topic though.

Looking good. Post up some more pics of the progress. I dig a frame off crew cab project - I'd love to do one myself, but I'll have to live vicariously through you. So, post up more

Well, the front axle is finally installed on 6" super rides. Sitting on the front tires today. On to the rear suspension and fitting 4 - 36 x 12.5's in the rear.

Wife is getting a little tired of my borrowing her wheels so I'm gona have to push this along! :haha:

Looks GREAT! I love my crew cab dually 4x4 and I don't think I'll ever buy another vehicle. Keep the update pictures coming!!!!

If I had know where your place was when I was stuck up in that part of the state I would have spent less time chassin tail in that town and more time peaking in windows of shops.

Looks awsome.

Just a little side track though. Where in the heck do you go wheelin there? That place is entirley to flat to have any fun on.

There is a few good places to go. Got to have a tow rig and gas money to really have fun.

Looks a ton better then the last time I saw it Kert. Do you want me to push to get my truck up there for you to pull my turbo setup off, if you still want it. I only have 900 or so to throw at the motor swap, so i dont know would you want to just keep my truck up there for me for awhile.

Front end is completely finished now.

Tuesday a new power plant showed up at the shop thanks to Marv Springer. 500 cubic inches of stump pulling power!!!! I think it just has to go into the crewcab project.

Rear suspension is born.

As of now the plans for the engine are obviously the tru roller timing chain, intake and headers. Cam and lifter set on the way as well as some Keith black 9.2 hypeur(whatever) pistons. Hopefullly it will pull like I want it too!
